I like it but I know way too many girls named Lara. It also makes me think of Dr Zhivago and I always thought the Lara character was a weak and terrible person.

I have a little Lara Catherine at home and all I can say is that I'm still 100% inlove with that name. I love it. I'm very happy with Catherine as a MN too. I think it flows very well and it's classic. Besides the meaning is always a plus.
We pronounce it LAH-rah.

Lara and Laura are a bit close in my opinion. But I guess it's up to you to judge the situation. I mean if they live under the same roof it will be difficult, but otherwise I think it's ok.
But I know that I love this name so much that I would have used it no matter whose name sounded similar to.

I adore Lara! I always liked Larissa, nn Lara, but then we got my puppy from the shelter and her name is Lara, so that's out, lol (we pronounce it 'LAH-rah').

Honestly Laura and Lara are extremely close in my opinion. But that would have to be up to you. Lara is a nice name.

Personally, it reminds me of the word lard, but I can see how it`s beatiful to a lot of people. A bearer might keep getting called Laura,though. Lara Natalia, Lara Juliana and other long names ending in "a" work well.

It's in my top five.

I don't understand LAHR-ə (I don't know what it means), but I said Lara as LAH-ruh. I hate the American pronunciation of LAIR-ruh though.

Laura and Lara are very close, but when you have your won family, Little Lara and Big Laura aren't going to be associated with each other 100% of the time, so it's not that bad.

I like the name Lara. It used to be one of my favourite names - it isn't any more but I still think it's a really good name. As for it being too close to Laura, I don't think it is. I can't really think of any middle names right now, but I'll PM you if I come up with anything.
