[Opinions] Damian
How do you feel about the Polish pronunciation of Damian - dahm-yahn. There is a boy in the school that I work at called this (he has a twin sister named Kamila "Mila") and I've really taken to it. I was thinking that Damian Dashiell sounded partiularly handsome. Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Combos?TIA

I like that pronunciation much better than the English one. It's also said that way in Germany.

I love that pronounciaton, but in an English speaking country it will definately be mispronounced unfortunately. I also love Mila, gorgeous name. I don't mind it on its own as a name. The natural spelling of Kamila is quite adorable and I like it alot better than Camilla!

If you like that sound, just use Dominic

...Which sounds nothing like Damian?

The way the OP said she liked it pron. (DAHM-yan), Dominic does have the same starting sound...

Around here, Dominic is usually DO-min-ik or DOM-in-ik, not DAHM-in-ik.

I pronounce "DOM-in-ik" and "DAHM-in-ik" the same way. How are they different?

They're the same in my accent :S

I love Damian, although I prefer the French spelling Damien after Father Damien. (Any man who tends to lepers and eventually dies of the disease himself deserves honor.)I think you'll be swimming against a heavy stream with the Polish pronunciation of Damian. It's nice, don't get me wrong. But if you can't take the English pronunciation, you might want to find another name. I knew a (woman) Andrea who went by, "ahn-DRAY-uh." Only about half of the people ever got it right. Damian Dashiell is a little "d" heavy for me. I'd prefer Damian Ansel, Damian Pascal, Damian Paul.

I like it. I have a Serbian friend named Damjan who uses this pronounciation. I'm a fan of Damian anyway.

I much prefer the Polish pronunciation, but I think you'll probably only hear it in Poland. Everyone I know would pronounce it DAY-mee-ehn, like the kid from The Omen (which I think kind of ruined the name). I'm not sure how to pronounce Dashiell. I'd guess dah-SHEEL, which feels a bit made-up to me (I know, I know, Dashiell is literary).Combos:
Damian Peter (or Peter Damian)
Damian Cyrus
Damian Cyril
Damian Henry
Damian Isaac
Damian Charles (or Charles Damian)
Damian Willem
Damian Lawrence
Damian Cash
Damian Aleksei
Damian Sergei
Damian Schuyler -- probably my fave... DAHM-yan SKY-ler
Damian Jude
Damian Bradford
Damian James
Damian Klaus
Damian Alec
Damian Grant
Damian Filip
Damian Jack
Damian Viggo (Viggo Damian?)
Damian Beau -- love this one, too
