[Opinions] Lucille
What do you think of Lucille for a girl? I always thought it was cute and didn't see it as dated.Do you know anyone named Lucille? Do you think a Lucille would get called Lucy? I don't mind Lucy but would prefer her to be called Lucille.Lucy is getting really common. Do you think Lucille sounds very similar to Lucy? I just don't want her in a class with three other girls who have very similar sounding names. In school there were many Annas, two Annikas, an Anika, an Anneke etc and it was a bit annoying.Do you think Lucille will get popular again? Anytime soon? Does it sound dated to you? What kind of person do you picture when you see the name?

It sounds very dated to me - the only one I know is in her 60s. And I don't like it one bit: too country-music. It's also one of the many French names that get used by people who don't know any French at all, which can be pretentious. The Lucille I know has never been Lucy. She is quiet and mousy. However, I far prefer Lucy to Lucille and would rather use it any day.

I like it. Lucilla is nice too, but Lucille has a fun 50s vibe, probably because of Lucille Ball. I know one Lucille, who's Dutch, and she's nearly always called Lucy. Which is fine by me, as Lucy is great.

What do you think of Lucille?
-I think it's charming, but I prefer Lucinda.Do you know anyone named Lucille? Do you think a Lucille would get called Lucy?
-My mother-in-law is named Lucille, and everyone calls her Lucy. I guess you could insist on being called Lucille, but Lucy sounds better for a little girl/young woman.Do you think Lucille sounds similar to Lucy?
-Yes.Do you think Lucille will get popular again?
-Lucille, no. Lucy, however, is already in the top 100 here in the states, so it's already risen in popularity.Does it sound dated to you? What kind of person do you picture when you see the name?
-A little, yes. I think it's okay, but all I can see is my mother-in-law (not a bad thing, she's a lovely woman).

I really like the name and haven't met anyone called Lucille to my knowledge. I definitely think Lucille would get Lucy, for sure. I doubt the name will get popular anytime soon. I think Lucinda would be more appealing to parents these days.

Lucille is quite common in my area, however, I live in a French-speaking part of Canada(for those new to the board). So, yes, I know several Lucilles. Here, it is dated..there arn't any little Lucilles, though some named Lucie. In an English-speaking area, I think it would be a good name.

I don't mind it, but it just seems a bit dull and urgh for me, because I've known three Lucilles (one my age, two about the same age as my stepsisters, so around 8 - 11) and they have all been Lucy pretty much all the time, to the point where I thought the two little ones, who are friends, were named Lucy and Lucille nn Lucy - but they were both Lucilles. Granted, I'm in Australia and nicknames are almost unavoidable, but Lucy and then subsequently Luce and Lu / Lou are inevitable.Lucille, Lucinda, Lucie, Lucia, Luciana, Lucretia, Lucrezia, etc will all see the light of day thanks to Lucy's rise. And here I think all would be called Lucy / Lucie. The only one I can see being a full name is Lucia.(Also, Lucy is one name that just looks more ridiculous-looking when I type it out multiple times. It's cute, though. I really love it.)
