Help[Opinions] Ingrid
I found out recently from my mother that my Oma had wanted me to be named Ingrid, after her dead sister and daughter (who also died). It's odd - I've never really thought too much about the name Ingrid, but I think it would have suited me quite well. I can understand why my mom did not agree to it though (so many dead Ingrids must be bad juju), and if I had known about it when I was changing my name I don't think I would have chosen it either, for reasons of family politics, but I must say I enjoy the idea that I could have been an Ingrid!
What do you think of the name Ingrid? I think my name, if it had been chosen, would have been Ingrid Kristina, Ingrid Clarissa, or Ingrid Crystal (or Ingrid Kristal maybe).

It's weird. For years I thought this was one of the ugliest names out and I didn't understand why it was still in somewhat common usage (I've known 4 or 5 over the years of various ages...but to me, it should have been as uncommon as Gretchen). Anyway, I haven't thought about it at all in a very long time and today I read this post and I see it differently.
It is still a very hard name. It doesn't really have any warmth to it IMO. But its strong and striking and quite regal. For the first time I'm seeing why it may appeal to some people. So funny how your perceptions of names change over time.

I like it - but am not in love with it, preferring the sound of Astrid.

I quite like Ingrid; always have. It sounds classy to me. People say it's harsh, but if you see a cute little girl with this name it seems to always be adorable (to me anyway). I like that you really cannot confuse it with any other name - it's one of a kind (without being made up).
Of the combos you mentioned I would pick Ingrid Kristina.

Ooh, yeah, that is a really nice combo. I wonder how my mother would feel about having a granddaughter named Ingrid? I bet she'd get over her hatred of it right quick.

I don't like Ingrid. To me it sounds harsh. I've had two teachers with the name (well, I still have one of them). It's a quite popular name here in Sweden, mainly women around 45-65 or something. However it's staritng to come back and I see more and more children named Ingrid. Ingrid Kristina sounds very Swedish to me. :)

Ingrid Kristina does sound very Swedish! I could probably pull off pretending to be Swedish really well too - I'm super fair with a dimple and everything.
I think Ingird is considered an "old lady" name in North America as well, even though there are not as many Ingrids here. I think that was the main reason my mom did not like it.
