[Opinions] Frederick
What do you think of Frederick and the nicknames Fred and Freddie?I fear it will explode in popularity because it's one of the older names that seems to have the potential to make a comeback. Weirdly it seems to be falling on the popularity charts. What do you think? Do you know anyone with the name or similar names? Of what age? Any younger ones?I prefer Frederik which I think is the Danish or generally the European form. Do you think that spelling would cause confusion? Frederick or Frederik?

It's pretty well a standard name in South Africa, though not in English, and is usually without the c. I've heard as nns for it the rather unexpected Derick and Eric as well as Fred; another possibility is Friedel.

I do like the name and prefer the Frederick spelling. I love the nn Fred and while Freddie is ok, I do prefer Fred. I doubt it will get super popular, as I think a lot of parents these days will find it stuffy.

I looooove Frederick. It's my favorite boys' name. Not a *huge* fan of Fred, but I really like Freddie. I've only ever met one Fred - I think he's in his late 20s/early 30s. I prefer Frederick to Frederik just because the latter looks a little abrupt. I don't think it would cause too much confusion, though. I'm sure a Frederik would probably have to correct some people if he lived somewhere the spelling wasn't common, but overall I don't see it being a huge problem.

I love Frederick, NN Freddie/Freddy. It reminds me of Freddy Mercury, not a bad association at all. Beautiful, operatic voice.I don't see it becoming too popular, and I definitely prefer Frederick over Frederik.

I find Frederick quite handsome but I dislike both Fred and Freddie. They make me think of Freddo frogs (a popular chocolate for kids here) and too many dogs I know are named Fred or Freddie. Both just sound so dopey.I think it will come back eventually but it isn't quite ready yet. I think a lot of people still see Fred as an old man name.

I love Frederick, and I enjoy both Fred and Freddie as occasional nicknames.Frederik looks very harsh to my American eyes, but I doubt the spelling would cause confusion.

Freddie is a cute nn. The spelling probably won't cause much confusion considering other names/spellings that are out there. Spell it the way you like it, he may have to correct people but that's with any name that consists of more that 4 letters. I prefer Frederik as well.
