[Opinions] Theo
Just wondering what your thoughts were on just using Theo as a name on its own without the full Theodore? Does it look unfinished or is it do-able, the same way some people are called Sam, and Leo instead of the full Samuel and Leonardo.
Because I've always loved Theo as a name and I always just made it the full Theodore without much thought but sometimes the DOOR thing stands out to me and I'm not sure I like it a lot. I would pretty much always call him Theo anyway, so why not make tat his full name? Would giving a long, grander middle name balance it out, like Alexander or does it not matter at all?

Theo is a common name here, and so is Theodor.
Personally I prefer it as a nickname, but it's perfectly fine on it's own too. I'd compare it to Liam - could be a nickname for William but also works on its own.

I know it's grounds for expulsion, but I prefer Theo on a female :-XThough it is best as a nickname for Theodora or Theodosia ;)

I'ddefend you! Or join you in exile, maybe. I don't like Theo for guys. I think Theo sounds much more appropriate to a female, and it is even kind of nice when I consider it, especially as a nickname. I think I favor Theda more for that, though.

Not grounds for expulsion if it's a nnPretty much anything goes for nicknames imo.

I love Theo and I think it definitely works on it's own. Leo is pretty common without being short for something, so I don't see why Theo wouldn't work. I think putting it with a long middle name is a good idea to balance it out.

I think Theo could stand on it's own. But I wouldn't want to use it as the full first name, personally. No particular reason why. I just really like Theodore. And yes, I would say a longer middle name would be needed to balance it out. I always pair shorter first names with long middle names.

I think Theo works fine on it's own. I think it's better than Sam on it's own.I really like the name Theo, by the way. It's a nice, classic, strong, handsome name. I like it better as a nickname for Theodore, but I like it on it's own, as well.Yeah, I think it would balance it out a little better if you used a longer name like Alexander.

I love Theo on it's own. I would use it by itself, for sure. I don't think it needs Theodore, and actually I'm not a big fan of Theodore. They have two completely different vibes to me- Theodore is dorky, bookish, quiet. Theo is a cool artsy dude.I think it would be best matched with a longer middle name, not necessarily grand, but at least three syllables.

That is the exact same vibe that I get!

Some traditional nns can stand on their own. Somehow Theo doesn't feel like one of them to me. If you do't like the "door" in Theodore, there's always Theophilus ("thee-AH-fil-us"), Theodosius or even Timothy.I've used Theo as a name in its own right in combinations, but always as a mn. Solomon Theo, for example.

I prefer it with Theodore, but I am fond of Theodore. Honestly, pushing beyond my name-nerd tendencies, I wouldn't name my child something I didn't like. I would find a way around it, or in the end, settle for a nickname as a name.Theodoric
Theodosius
Theophilus
Theobald

Hmm that's very true. My brother's name is just Kris because my parent's couldn't stand Christopher. And that seemed to work out for him so I don't see why Theo couldn't

While I do like Theodore, I prefer Theo on its own by far. It's one of my favorite names. A long middle name could balance it out, but I don't think that his middle name necessarily has to be long. Something like Theo James could work just as well as Theo Alexander.

I think Theo works on its own. Leo works on its own as well. I'm not a huge fan of short names but I've always been a fan of Theo and Leo.
