[Opinions] Idris and Thora
I'm starting to find Idris kind of beautiful. WDYT of it? What about for someone not from Wales or even close? And Thora, is this name too intense for a real person? I really like the sound. I'm really liking the combo Jane Thora - it sounds like some old, cranky librarian.

Idris is really cool, even for a non-Welsh person. I'd maybe use it as a middle name. I love Thora too. I'd use it as a first or middle name. I'd like Joan Thora or Thora Joan better than Jane Thora, just because I think Jane is a bit too sweet for Thora.

I've known a couple Idrises - and neither of them was Welsh. One was a Palestinian Muslim, and the other was a white Muslim convert. It's also an Arabic name! :) So that being said, I don't think it would be weird on a non-Welsh person at all.I've also known a Thora, she was a baby who passed away... Jane Thora is really cool. I don't think it's too intense for a real person at all. It's artsy and snippy.

I'm unsure about Idris. It does seem like it could go unisexThora I love. And as others have noted I too think it makes a great nn for TheodoraJane Thora I don't care for. It sounds lispy. Thora Jane is loads better

Idris seems to me like one of those names that might come into fashion - in thirty years. It also seems likely to go unisex. I'm not fascinated by it ... I love DR sounds, but Idris does not sound quite namey enough to me. It's sort of adenoidal, like it's missing an N sound? Dunno. I don't really enjoy saying it. But it's alright.Thora doesn't seem intense to me unless I think about Thor, which I don't generally, when I hear Thora. Thora feels more like a nick for Theodora, like Theda. I don't think it sounds harsh at all; I can totally picture it on a youth. Goes with Freya really well... even seems a little bit less fanciful because it seems to have just a shadow of antique-ness, and Freya does not.Jane Thora is okay. Doesn't sound old or cranky to me. Joan Thora would, though.

I love both Idris and Thora. Idris is beautiful and exotic-sounding. Thora is kind of punk-rocker chic to me. I prefer Thora Jane. :)

I really like Idris and love Thora. Both deserve more recognition!

If I came across a child named Idris I might wonder if they were named after Idris Elba so I definitely think it can work on a non-Welsh person. I like it.I met some people a while ago who had a daughter named Idris. They gave quite complicated reasons why they chose that name and she had a very unusual middle name as well but I can't remember the details now.Thora is a bit cranky and intense for me. Not my style along with similar names like Thea. Also makes me think of the late Thora Hird (who was a very well respected actress).

Yeah, the strong celebrity association kind of turns me off. I actually got the idea from that show "Hinterland." But this Idris was a murder victim, so even worse than the celeb association. That said, I did love Luther.

Oh, Hinterland! I remember watching that a few months ago. I didn't know that would be shown in America. What did you think of it? There were a lot of comparisons with the kind of Scandinavian noir type dramas that there have been a lot of lately. I think they are making a second series which would be good.Sorry for the OT tangent! I could talk about TV just as easily (maybe more so) than names! But from a name pov, I remember seeing a lot of nice Welsh names in the credits. :-)

It's on Netflix. Lots of British mystery dramas are on Netflix and I love them. Before this I watched Happy Valley, which I liked a lot. Hinterland is interesting so far, but it's so dark and the landscape is so grim!

Not sure about Idris. I don't like that it sounds like Iris or Isis, names I don't care for. I love Thora, it's one of my favourites. Why do you think it would be too intense?

Just the whole potential Thor, thunder connection :) I still like it.

Ok, I can see that. But it's still a great name. I like Thor on a boy too, but Thora on a girl is even better.

I really, really like Idris. I think it's great for a boy or a girl. I'm sure it's fine for someone not from Wales. I'm not from Wales. Thora I don't really care for. I like Tora much better.

I love Idris. It's a family name for me, which makes me like it more. :) I don't think it sounds or looks super Welsh, even though it is, so could probably do ok on a non-Welsh-at-all person.Thora is ok. I kinda like the sound and kinda think it's too intense for me.

Idris gives me a very firm and clear picture of an ibis. Kind of weird but it does ^_^"
I wouldn't have known it was Welsh if you hadn't said but I reckon anyone who knows would find it super Welsh. I also couldn't guess if it was a boy's name or girl's.Jane Thora does totally give that image xD It's not a name I'd ever care to use but I guess it's alright. Nothing wrong with it, anyway.

Idris reminds me of crying, for some reason. Thora is cool and commanding, not too intense. I think it kicks ass.
