Pronounced similar to Karen or Sharon, but it's Maren. Thoughts?

I love Maren, but not that pronunciation. I've always heard it pronounced where Mar rhymes with far. Maren Eugenia is on my top list :)

It's pretty. Makes me understand why Karen was so popular at one time. Not so much Sharon, because I don't pronounce Sharon to rhyme with Karen or Maren.

How do you pronounce Sharon? (I rhyme it with Karen, and I guess Maren also).I've never known anyone named Maren, but I do like it.
I like a non-vowel ending, as my (married) last name is all vowels.

The first syllable of Sharon is just like the word "share". The vowel in the first syllable of Karen and Maren is like the one in the word "cat".

Ah, thanks.A little difference in our accents, not surprising given we come from different places.

I can't stand Maren. There's no rational reason for this. I like Karen a lot, and Sharon is OK. But Maren ... ick.The only reason I can think of for me to dislike Maren is this. Many years ago, I met a friend of a friend named Marty. Then, out of the blue, I heard she had decided she wanted to be called Maren and no longer Marty.

I would too.

I've always thought it was gorgeous, but for some reason it's never made it onto my would use list.

I love it!I'm not even sure why.. It's just got something. It's more interesting than Mary, Marina or Marion. It's simple, but elegant. I like that it's derived from Mars / Marinus rather than Mary, as well.

I like it; though some may object, I think that it works well for either gender. The Senior Priest from the Exorcist used this name - although I believe the spelling to be Merrin - pronounced to rhyme with Karen.
They are coming to get you, Barbra!

I like it, I think it's pretty and it reminds me of wintertime for some reason. I pronounce it the same as you. I prefer Mara (different MAR pronunciation).

Pronounced MAIR-un rhyme Darren and barren, I think it sounds harsh.
Pronounced MAH-ren rhyme warren, I sorta like it.

It's my friend's name! I think it's pretty. She has a little sister named Caroline.

I like it!
It feels more Irish to me than Danish/Norwegian, even though I'm Swedish myself. I think it has a nice sound and a good, warm feeling.
