[Opinions] Amber
What do you think of the name Amber? My father mentioned today that he really liked it and it has been on my mind ever since. What combos would you suggest using Amber as either a FN or MN?Finally, what names would you pair with Amber as siblings?

I love the name Amber, but it's a perfect example to me of how popularity (in this case, former popularity) ruins a name. I love the way it sounds and the image of the color and of (well, duh) amber the object that it conjures up.But because of how popular it was in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it has acquired a "bimbo cheerleader" image for many. It really soared in the 70s only to start dropping around 2000, so it might seem like a fad and is definitely on its way to being dated if it isn't already.I knew when I was having children in the 80s that it was popular, so I never considered using it, despite how much I loved it. I didn't want to have a "born-in-the-80s-so-no-surprise-you're named Amber" daughter.I'm no good at combos, but I think that Amber and Scarlett make a cool sibset.

Agreed. Amber is a pretty name that I wouldn't touch today. I was just thinking of this name along with Jasmine the other day. Both are pretty names that suffered the same downward slide.

I would probably like it if an Amber in middle school hadn't bullied me. It just grates on me now & sounds whiny. Trying to put that aside, I could see siblings Bridget, Corbin, Fern, Greta, Isidore, June, Kai, Opal, Percy, Phoenix, Robin, Simon, Talia, Timothy, Veronica, Vincent, Wren.

It's ok but really overused.

I've never liked it. It sounds a bit trashy to me; like a drunk party queen.

I'd probably like it more if it didn't immediately call to mind an image of a teenager with runny mascara (which I think falls into the same category as "drunk party queen" and "bimbo cheerleader")...considering I like the Amb- sound well enough, plus lots of other nature inspired names...so idk, maybe if I knew a kid named Amber, my opinion of it would change, but for now, I have a slight prejudice against it.Amber Josephine / Josephine Amber
Amber Genevieve / Genevieve Amber
Amber Penelope / Penelope Amber
Amber Danielle / Danielle Amber
Amber Sylvia / Sylvia Ambersiblings...maybe: Hazel, Daphne, Eileen, Roxane, Micah, Silas, Patrick, Lorcanor sisters Amber & Topaz
