Help[Opinions] Maia or Lucy?
Obviously it's just personal preference, but I just can't decide!

Lucy. I'm not a fan of Maia.

Maia is more modern and therefore less classic; it also seems to have more pronunciation options (MAYa? MYa?). But it's pretty and I quite like it.
I'd go for Lucy in a heartbeat, except I wouldn't: it was going to be my daughter's name, but when she was born she just didn't look right to be a Lucy. No clue how she did it!

Caroline! Luckily I'd taken a reliable names book in with me, so I just worked through it, finding names I liked and seeing if they'd fit. I hadn't thought about Caroline, so it was quite a surprise when she looked like one. Luckily also, I didn't have to work through the entire alphabet before I found the right one.

Nice! I love the name Caroline too! We had it on our list too, but hubby being French Canadian pronounces it as Carolyn even when spelt Caroline, and neither of us likes the others pronounciation as much as our own.
Seems like Lucy is the winner in this poll. She was my original favourite and I just thought of Maia recently as a contender, but now I'm thinking of sticking with Lucy. As long as she looks like one! We've also got Liliana (Lily) on the list to try out at the hospital bc that's the hubby's favourite.

Can't say I'm crazy about either, but I'd chose Maia. My only association with Lucy is the character from Peanuts.

Lucy, definitely Lucy! I love Lucy! Unfortunately it's super popular here in Australia and one of my DH's cousins used it for one of her DD's mns, so we didn't use it. It's such a gorgeous name though and ages well imo.

Both are lovely, though I lean towards Lucy. I prefer Maja to Maia.
I'd say it depends on what middle and last names are being used! Consider the flow of them carefully, maybe that will help you choose one. There will likely be one that sounds better to you.

No real insight, but I prefer Lucy.Maia seems insubstantial.

So interesting bc I would have thought Maia sounds more like a 'complete' name, where I'm afraid I'll always we asked what Lucy is short for.

Oh no! I think of Lucy as being complete. I've known a few Lucys, and never known one to get that question. I know of a baby Lucianna just born, but she's an exception -- and called Lulu, anyway.

My sister, whose name is Lucy, has definitely been asked whether her name is short for Lucille or something else, but I don't think it's a big deal. Her name was also quite uncommon when she was born (1980) and growing up, but now Lucy is high enough in the charts that people may not expect it to be short for something longer.

I agree - Lucy seems a perfectly complete name I was really surprised to find out how many of the Lucys I knew were actually Lucindas.

I like both, but Lucy would win in the end. I do like Maia infinitely more than Maya.

I prefer Maia.
I like it because it is still rare in Italy (even if it is a Latin name). It has a natural meaning and it is simply to write and pronounce.
Finally it doesn't need any NN.

I think I currently prefer Lucy. I used to really like Maia but that has passed a bit. I still like it but not as much as Lucy. I used to prefer Maia but now I much prefer the spelling of Maya. But both are fine as long as it's not Mya which I think is awful. They are both nice and you can't go wrong but I would go with Lucy. The good thing about Lucy is that there aren't so many popular alternate spellings. There is Lucie but it isn't really used much. On the other hand Maya, Mya and Maia are all used quite a bit. She would probably often have to correct the spelling because people would assume Maya. There is also Laia in case you want a bit of both ;) Kaia is also nice or Aya!
