Round 2 – Summer evening with a glass of…lemonade
It was a hot summer evening a year ago when the triplets met in the garden of their parents’ house. Coming together to celebrate their parents’ thirtieth wedding anniversary over a long weekend each of the sisters had own story to share. After listening to each other, laughing and crying together it turned out all of them had something in common, they were going to become mothers.
The oldest triplet took the split from her long-term boyfriend hard. While she was busy at work she had little to no time to think about all her dreams that vanished into thin air with his departure, but the late afternoons and evenings became her real enemy. It wasn’t long after the split when she bumped into an old childhood friend in a grocery store. He returned back to town after leaving the army and turned out to be a good distraction for her lonely evenings. The two of them gradually spent more and more time together enjoying each other’s company. Their relationship had been strictly friendly until that one evening when they had one too many glasses of wine, the triplet mentioned the crush she had on him in eighth grade and one thing lead to another… A month later the home pregnancy test only confirmed what she already knew, she was pregnant.
The middle triplet spent a good chunk of the year positioned in Europe where she was covering all news related to European Union as well as the impending Brexit. Without her circle of friends, in a foreign country her evenings were often spent in a corner table of one of many pubs in the city where she could catch up on the work she still had to finish. It was not uncommon for a guy to try to join her there, but with years of experience she already knew how to handle them. Well, except that one guy that was so persistent that she closed her laptop for the day, allowed him to buy her a beer and later left the pub with. When she woke up the next morning he was gone, not that she complained at that moment. When her period did not arrive when it was supposed to weeks later she realized that all she knew about the baby’s father was his first name.
The youngest triplet was certainly not looking for commitment when she started hooking up with one of her frequent customers. He adored her paintings and as it later turned out adored their author as well. For the first time in her life someone made her feel like what she was doing was worth it and the feeling was driving her forward when she spent hours behind the closed doors of her room working on one painting after another. Whatever free time she had was spent with her boyfriend. It felt weird to call someone her boyfriend at first, but she got accustomed to it quickly. She should have known that things went too good for too long and when the two lines stared back at her from the pregnancy test she was thrown back into reality. She was so not ready to be a mother.

One hot summer evening in 2017, Amber, Jade, and Opal got together in their parents’ garden to drink lemonade and chat about each other’s lives.
“How are you holding up, Amber?” Jade asked her older sister as they sipped their lemonade and ate some cantaloupe.
“It’s been a rollercoaster,” the oldest triplet admitted, “but thankfully Ian is making it all better!”
Amber had run into Ian, an old childhood friend, at the grocery store. He had come back to town after returning from the Army, and surprisingly they’d both remembered each other. After they finished their shopping, Amber and Ian had made a catch-up date, where Amber had admitted her crush on him from eighth grade.
“We’re so happy to hear that!” Opal commented. “By the way, you never told us how your date went! Is he as hot as you remembered?”
“He is! We still have a lot in common, but then one thing led to another…” Amber let her voice trail off, but Jade could already sense something was up.
“What, did he get you pregnant?”
A smile crept up on Amber’s face, and her sisters squealed in excitement.
“You’re kidding me!” Jade said. “I was about to tell y’all the same thing!”
“Oh, my gracious! How’d you manage that?” Amber asked.
Jade told the sisters about how she met a guy named Emilio at a pub in Barcelona, and how she went home with him, woke up in bed next to him, and found herself pregnant a month later.
“Do you still talk to him?” Amber asked.
Jade shrugged. “Not really…distance and all that, y’know? But I’m determined to keep this baby and raise it, even if it’s not with Emilio.” It was then that Jade noticed a distressed look on Opal’s face. “What’s wrong?”

When Gus and Karen invited their daughters for their 30th wedding anniversary celebration they never expected the celebrations will take the turn they did. The whole family was comfortably seated in the backyard and it was naturally Trix who was the first one to share her news. Handing her parents a neatly wrapped box with a little card saying "This gift will stay forever." she smiled inwardly at the confusing look that her mother gave her father before she unpacked it carefully opening the lid. Karen gasped her hands covering her mouth immediately when she spotted the pair of white baby shoes. "I'm pregnant!" Trix announced promptly. Her words followed by a quiet "Me too." from Ada all eyes turning to her in an instant, before Lin added "Me as well."
"Oh my God." Karen gasped her eyes running from one of her daughters to another, her mind not ready to comprehend the idea that she was going to be a grandmother to three soon.
“How did that happen?” Gus asked out of the blue, stunned as his wife.
“Dad, I thought that by now you’d know how babies are made.” Trix replied cheekily.
Gus laughed, the tense atmosphere quickly gone. “I do smarty pants, but except Lin who has been for obvious reasons floating on cloud number nine lately, I have yet to meet the guys who are responsible for my other two grandchildren.”
“Well, I don’t think you are ever going to meet the guy who’s responsible for this one.” Trix let out a sigh resting her right hand on her still flat stomach.”
“What do you mean Trixie? Is he not going to stick around?” Karen asked her middle daughter.
“No, mom, he has no idea that he is going to be a father.”

The parents reacted to the news with... caution. They know their daughters are grown adults, but none of these situations were how they had been expecting to get grandchildren! Their father does his best to be diplomatic, which often results is just not saying anything. Their mother makes it clear that she's thrilled for the additions to their family, and that they can always count on her support - but also that she doesn't think they've been all too responsible. She's often dropping not-too-subtle hints to Clara and Nadia that she thinks they ought to be married to the fathers of their children.
Conor wants to continue being involved in the lives of Clara and Ivy - their rekindled friendship has been a joy for them both. But he's afraid to push his boundaries, or make it feel like they have to commit to a romantic relationship because of this, and hasn't been quite sure how much space to keep. Things have been awkward, and Clara has trouble keeping up with his swings between closeness and distance.
Irene has always been responsible, and as soon as she knew about her pregnancy, she saw the children as her responsibility. For her there was never any question of keeping them. However for most of her pregnancy, she just viewed it as another thing that she had to take care of. She wasn't bitter about it - if a little disappointed in herself for taking those chances - but it was hard for her to feel an emotional connection to them. Once she saw her children, though, that all changed.
Joe was, well, not exactly surprised by the news - he knows how babies are made. But it was still something of a shock. They'd never discussed anything like this at all. But as the news sunk in, he was determined to support his beloved through it, and has doted on Wren since before she was born.

Their mother is all excited and happy and bouncy at the thought of being a grandmother. Their father has mixed feelings about his daughters being mothers before wives, but he's trying not to pay too much attention to the negative ones.
"So how did this," he says, waving his hand at his daughters, "happen?"
Jade and Hannah speak first. Hannah and Gabriel had started out being friends, but as they spent more time together, they started to like each other as more-than-friends. And then one night they were drinking too much and they weren't thinking clearly and they both had a crush on the other and, well, now Hannah is pregnant, but they're also dating, so maybe that wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Jade has adopted a much less depressing attitude towards life and stuff. Perhaps nothing she does will ever matter in the grand scheme of things, but stuff can matter to her and that's worth something. At first, she was super panicked about being a mom. She didn't know what she was going to do and she thought Evan was going to dump her. But he didn't. He's not that kind of person. They're still together and they plan to raise their son together and maybe get married eventually... they're not sure yet. Things could work out between them.
Nora didn't want to talk at first, but her parents and sisters have finally convinced her. She doesn't know what happened. It was dumb of her to hook up with some guy and she wishes she hadn't.
"But you are keeping the baby, right?" her dad says sternly.
Nora guesses she will. Her sisters will be behind her no matter what, but she's not sure what her parents will do if she doesn't keep the baby. She can support her daughter financially, and in their eyes, that means she has to. She has two lifelines and she can't lose one.

When Michael invited his daughters over to celebrate his sixtieth birthday*, he never in his wildest dreams imagined that his daughters would announce their individual pregnancies, each one with a due date only a few weeks apart. "It'll almost be like having triplets again," he teased. The girls couldn't disagree with him. Knowing Harper's story, Michael asked Lydia and Camilla to share theirs.
Lydia said, "You remember Jay Merrill, right?" Camilla gasped. Jay was the only thing Lydia talked about during middle school and even into high school. Camilla and Harper knew all the dirt on that relationship, up until the present. "He and me... well, it just kinda happened. We didn't plan it, it just happened. Middle school me wluld be so happy that I got his attention."
Michael chuckled at his daughter's reaction. "Is this Jay Merrill guy sticking around?" he asked, hoping that the man didn't break his daughter's heart.
"He wouldn't be Jay if he wasn't," Lydia replied with a grin from ear to ear. "We chose not to, like, continue our relationship in that sense--" Both her sisters voiced their disappointment. "--we just didn't feel like right now was the right time for one. After my breakup and Jay's struggling with a few things of his own, we were just not in the right place emotionally."
"But he is helping?" Michael pressed.
Lydia sighed, smiling at her father, ever the protective man. "Yes, daddy, Jay is helping. He's been so good about it already. He helped me find the best doctor and he's already helping me figure out how to manage my job and a baby. He was so cute, he was at the store yesterday and he saw a whole bunch of baby clothes so he just picked up one of each. We don't even know if it's a boy or a girl yet, so now I have a bunch of clothes I'll end up donating because he got too excited to wait."

When Michael invited his daughters over to celebrate his sixtieth birthday*, he never in his wildest dreams imagined that his daughters would announce their individual pregnancies, each one with a due date only a few weeks apart. "It'll almost be like having triplets again," he teased. The girls couldn't disagree with him. Knowing Harper's story, Michael asked Lydia and Camilla to share theirs.
Lydia said, "You remember Jay Merrill, right?" Camilla gasped. Jay was the only thing Lydia talked about during middle school and even into high school. Camilla and Harper knew all the dirt on that relationship, up until the present. "He and me... well, it just kinda happened. We didn't plan it, it just happened. Middle school me wluld be so happy that I got his attention."
