[Opinions] Araminta
Saw a birth notice in the paper for an Araminta Sophie. Never heard of this name before, can't decide if i like it or not.
Surely they'd get Minty as a nickname and thats a little tacky.

I loved it for a while, and Aminta / Amynta as well. But now I find it a bit too frilly. I would not want the nn Minty for myself or my child, so that's another detractor. LOL. Minnie or Minna would be cute, though. Araminta Sophie isn't a bad combo at all, btw.

I knew an Araminta with the nn Minta. It fit her well, but may be cutesy on others.

I LOVE it, but I prefer the spelling Aramyntha... I have a neopet (Neopets) with that name :P I wouldn' use it as FN for a real girl, though.

The creative director of Jimmy Choo, Tamara Mellon, had a daughter named Araminta. They call her Minty. Minty Mellon. Ewww...

Lol . . .Why am I not surprised . . . we had a thread about this one only a few days ago, and now it's popping up in the birth announcements. I see that happening with newly acceptable names all the time!Personally, I love Araminta, it's graceful and sweet. Minty *is* awful, though. I'd use Ara or Minna as a nickname.

There is an Araminta Meliflua in the Harry Potter books, but that is the only time I've ever heard the name used. It's very nmsaa for me.

Sophie is nice but Araminta is nms. It reminds me of the name of a brand of mints or a mint-scented room spray. Hopefully, she her nickname will be Ara or Ari instead of Minty.

Araminta is pretty, but I'd never use it. Minty is just wrong.Araminta Sophie is pretty.

Araminta is really nms. Something about it does not seem right to me. Sophie is okay only as a nn for Sophia. I used to hate this name, but it's growing on me.

It's a little too elaborate for me. I prefer Amynta."Les yeux sont aveugles. Il faut chercher avec le coeur." -- Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I think Araminta's OK if parents are looking for an unusual name. I met a girl once called Araminta, Minty for short. Apparently it's from some Shaksespeare play.
