[Opinions] WDYTO Merry?
What do you think of Merry, for a girl? I’m hesitant about using it because I think it sounds too much like Mary. Would you use it? If so, combo ideas? “Be the change that you wish to see in the world" -Gandhi

Much too cheery. It sounds like the name of an over-optimistic hobbit. I wouldn't use it.

I like it. It's completely different than Mary. Merry sounds so happy.

I prefer Mary.

Merry sounds nothing like Mary where I'm from. It's too juvenile as a full name, but I might use it as a nickname.Mairead would be my first choice.

Computer's seeing double - sorry! If you really enjoy it, name the girl Meredith, Meryl or Meriel and use Merry as a nn. As a name in its own right, it is immature and silly, like a sister to the 7 Dwarf brothers. Happy and Merry. No.And, in my dialect, it doesn't sound remotely like Mary.

Meryl isn’t bad, thanks!

I agree with her. Between the names you mentioned as favorites in your profile, Merry and Meryl go with Jessamine, Celeste, Vienna and Zephyrine.

Unless it's short for Meriadoc and it's meant for a male hobbit...eh.

Literally a butchered version of Mary.I’d prefer Mary. I don’t even like either like that, but Mary is a lot better. It looks like atrocious. I can only think of Merry Christmas.
