Met two little sisters in line at the grocery store tonight with their mom. I heard the mom call the younger one "Tiara" and that caught my attention. I asked the mom "like the princess crown?" And she said yes. I was curious what other royalty word name the other one was like Princess or Diamond or something of that nature. But she surprised me and said Anastasia "Anya" after the 90s movie about a fictional version of princess Anastasia.

What's your opinion? Because to me it seems Anya lucked out and Tiara got the short end of the stick when there are many good choices with royalty connections, as we've been exploring lately. Maybe I'm just being snobbish idk. But I just don't care for Tiara at all in the grand scheme of all the word names in the world. Idk.

I know of someone named Tierra (“Tee-air-uh”).

Anastasia is a pretty name. However, I don’t like it enough to use. I do love the name Anya, though. As for Tiara, I’m not a fan at all. I’d prefer Kiara or Kiera.

I actually like Tiara, as a guilty pleasure, and prefer it to Tiana. Although I am obsessed with girls names ending in -ara in general. I only like Anastasia if it's pronounced a-nuh-STAH-zee-uh; I think a-nuh-STAY-jzuh sounds ugly. Anya is beautiful. I think Anya and Tiara makes a cute sibset, although I agree that Anya got the better end of the stick.

I really like Anastasia, I would have gone with Tatiana or Tiana instead of Tiara though.

I think the names are cute for siblings. I’d probably go with Anastasia and Tatiana and call them Anya and Tia.

Tiara is fine. I grew up with one so I think of a person before I think of the crown tbh. Maybe the mother liked the sound over the royal quality but with a princess for a sister that may not be true.

Anya as a nn for Anastasia is great. I love it. Anastasia by itself is okay. I used to love it but now the "stas" part sounds off to me. Anya is much more fun. Biased, though, as Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite show and the character Anya is a hoot and a half on it.

Tiara is not my style, but I’ve heard worse. Tiana would’ve been better, though.

Anastasia & Tiana would’ve been cute for sisters.

To be honest, there's a Tiara at my school and I don't even register that it's the word for crown when I hear it. I used to think it was just some variant of Tiana or some Latin-derived name that just happened to sound like a word in English. It follows the same patterns of the name Chiara, so that might be part of it.

I think Anya goes well with it. I don't think the movie is really a problem here.
