Evelyn "Evie" just rubs me the wrong way. The Eeeeev sound isn't even in there! Maybe if is was Evilyn or Eva-Lynn I could get behind Evie for that. what about Eva then?Oh wait! Evening! yeeeah

It is a bit odd, but Evie does have a history of use as a nickname for Evelyn. Nicknames aren't always immediately apparent, and I don't think this one's that much of a stretch. The movie series, "The Mummie" has a character named Evelyn nn Evie. I see it as a cute, old fashioned combination.

My friends have a baby called Evelyn and they pronounce it Eve-lyn so the Eeeeeev sound is definitely there!On the other hand, one of my relatives was called Evelyn, but always shortened in the family to Ev, so I presume her name was pronounced as Ev-lyn. (I never met her myself, but heard about her a lot).
