Re: What do you think of YOUR name?
My name is Bethany... I rather like it, it's different but not too out-there and I think it fits fairly well. The problem is with people calling me Brittany (including on particularly uncaring principal at my Catholic grade school, who then announced an accomplishment of mine at a parish Mass, leaving me to fight an urge to strangle the innocent parishoners who came up to me afterward to say, "Congratulations, Brittany... yes I'm still bitter) or, if they don't hear me right, Stephanie (which I truly dislike). They also tend to nickname me Beth, which I don't like at all. I much prefer Bee, but according to many of the people I tell so, that's not a valid nickname. My middle name is Nicole, which I love. My sisters and I all have slightly unusual middle names, which I attribute to the fact that my parents' middle names are Marie and Michael.

Bee is a traditional nn for all B names, though especially Beatrice and Beatrix but not exclusively. If I ever met you in person I'll definitely call you Bee and not Beth. :)I don't know or forget how old you are but Nicole was a very popular name in the US in the 70's through the early 90's, it was in the top 15 from 1972 - 1994. My sister was born in 1990 and she hated that there were so many Nicole's at our middle school / high school but luckily every single one went by Nikki, Niki, or Nicki, my sister went mostly by Nicole to differentiate herself at the time, before then we equally called her Nicky or Nicole and sometimes Nick or other nn's that were more goofy. In middle school and high school she didn't want to be called Nicky but now she likes it again. I dislike all the other spellings of Nicky other than Nicky and Nickie, they just seem kind of cheap looking and trendy, none of the other Nicole's at our school spelled Nicky the way my sister does either which I was very surprised by.

I was born in 1993, so right at the end of that I guess. I knew a few Nicoles growing up but it wasn't particularly common... The names I was overexposed to are Rachel, Emily, and towards the end of high school, Hannah. In college I know two Nicoles and one Nichole, none of whom go by anything but their full name.I see Nicky as a male nn honestly, and like Nickie or I guess Nicki for girls. I did used to like Nikki but it has a terrible association for me so it's out.
