Your thoughts on...
Esme
Declan
EmmettWhat do you think of those names? Esme is one I've always liked but am starting to really love. It was the name of the lovely elderly lady that lived next door to me as a child. Even though I didn't know her that well, she was a lovely person who let us kids play games and ride our bikes in her big magical garden so this name has a lot of comforting imagery to me.Declan is a name I used to like a lot and after reading it in a book, I love it all over again.Emmett is a name I want to love but the blunt sound does bother me a little. It sounds a little sharp and insubstantial as a fn. Thoughts?

I love Esme. I just think it's gorgeous. It sounds soft but not insubstantial.Declan is not my cup of tea.Emmett looks nice. Unfortunately, where I live, a lot of people drop their Ts, so Emmett would end up as something like EMM-ih' which just sounds awful.

I like Esme and would have used it as a mn, given enough daughters. It's a family name of a deceased relative, and also the name of a totally wonderful teacher at my high school. It's very dated here in South Africa, but so what? Can't be positive about the other two. Declan isn't the worst Irish name, but in general I avoid Oirishry. Emmett sounds like an insect or some subterranean life form, certainly not human at all.

I don't think Esme is dated here. I think it is an old lady name, but not a hugely popular one for that generation so I don't think it has the dated feel to it luckily.Haha I love your comments about Emmett. The description is perfect!

Emmett strikes me as vaguely comic. In a nice way, not a stupid way. It's lighthearted, kinda. Also could seem numbskulled.Esme is nice. I'm not that into it but I've met little kid Esmes and it is nice.Declan is clunky to my ears, sort of badly designed for saying aloud in my accent. But it's a good name. It was the name of the eldest brother in a very large family I grew up near. So it seems normal to me.

Esme is lovely! I do love the name Esmeralda, which is rather strong, but Esme is so light and sweet. Declan is slowly getting popular. I wouldn't use it myself, but it's a great name! I prefer Everett or Bennett to Emmett, but it still is a nice name and is rather cool. :)

Esmeralda is a little too much for me, and with a long last name not such an option, I'm drawn to short and sweet these days. I also love the sound of Everett, but it was a teacher's last name in high school so it's just too last namey for me. Which is silly since there are other last names that aren't too weird for me. I just can't get over this one. Wish I could. The nn Ev is so cute.

Esme is really cute (love as a nn for Esmeralda).Combos (because I want to): Esme Oriana, Esme Naomi, Esme Gioia, Esme LeilaniDeclan sounds nice, but it reminds me a little of "Declaw", so I wouldn't use it.Combos: Declan Jameson, Declan Samuel, Declan Thomas, Declan VincentI like Emmett, but I also feel like it's missing a syllable or something. I prefer Everett, Emory, or Emmanuel.Combos: Emmett Jonathan, Emmett Theodore, Emmett Sylvester, Emmett Pierce.

Thanks for the combos! I haven't thought about Leilani in a long time! I also LOVE Emmett Theodore! And now you've made me realise what bothers me about Emmett, it is totally missing a syllable! I feel like just as you're starting to say the name, it's all over and it's like you don't quite catch the middle part. Which is weird since it's not a super short name. Emmett Pierce is also quite nice.

To tell you that truth, I also forgot about Leilani until that post yesterday. :)Yep, that's my hang-up with the name. It doesn't feel full on my tongue, and that bothers me.

I think Esme is lovely and if it holds special memories for you, then that's a nice thing too.Declan I am not overly fond of, though I don't hate it.Emmett is alright, though I wouldn't use it myself. I do find it quite masculine though.
