What do you think of Athenry as a boy's name (middle or second middle name not first), it's a place in Ireland and it's pronounced Ath-ehn-Rie, It's name comes from the Irish "Baile Átha an Rí", meaning "Ford of the King" . I first heard of it from the song "Fields Of Athenry" as sung by the High Kings and I totally fell in love with it, and yes I have Irish heritage, some of my ancestors came to America from Ireland in the 1600s.--------Signature--------

I love it. I think it sounds very noble.

Honestly- for a middle name, I think it's fine. I'm of the opinion that pretty much anything goes for a middle name and that's where you can really have fun and go for something you wouldn't necessarily choose for a first name. That being said, I would never use Athenry for a first name. When I first got a glance of it, before I really read it, I thought it was a low-class variation of Anthony, like Anfernee (if you've seen Mean Girls you'll get the reference.) And the fact that it ends in a RYE sound and not a REE sound means it will have pronunciation problems in my area. I'm also just not a place name fan. But anyway, it's for a middle name, and has personal significance to you, so why not?

I think it could work :) It has a nice sound and lots of place names are used as first names. But if I saw it or heard it I'd guess it was a girls name cos I'd link the Athen of Athenry to Athena. But I wouldn't be totally shocked or anything if it was used for a boy.
