Re: 3 favourites/least favourites
GIRLS:
Veronica, Nadia and Anneliese are my favorites for girl (and Juliet almost made it). All are classy, not used that often and have lovely meanings. Veronica is recognizable and spunky. It has some strong imagery as both the bad girl in literature/media, and as the pretty girl. It has the adorable and multi-ethnic nickname Vera ingrained, and it looks pretty and sounds pretty to say. Nadia means hope and I almost used this for our girl (eventually replacing it with Nadine on our list). I think it is short and sweet enough to blend in with modern trends, but not too common or too obscure. It's adorable on a child, but is easily pictured on an adult and it carries class. Anneliese is just crazy awesome. It looks like it should be over-the-top but manages to remain simple. It contains tons of nickname options and has the distinction of being both dusty-old and youthful at the same time. As a name, it is very strong and I would highly reccommend it. My least fav girls are Cora, Quinn and Geneva. All are rather boring and Ho-Hum to me.
- Cora is nick-namey for several lovely longer names (like Corinna, Cordelia, Coralie, Coretta, etc).
- Quinn is just NMS. I have never been fond of it and see it better on boys. I would rather see something like Gwynn or Gwendolyn.
- Geneva. Not bad, but a place name and there are much better G-options out there. Genesis, Eugenia, Imogene, Genevieve, Giselle, Georgina, or Regina would be better options. BOYS:
Julian, Soren and Adrian (and Seth) make the top for me of your boys names. As you can see, I like soft boys names that are strong despite their lack of harsh sounds. I am also a little biased on the J-names, as DH is Julius. In any case, all of these names have a great history, and are solid, classy choices. My least favorites are Grayson, Lachlan and Theo.
Grayson - I know a few (and I kinda like the spelling Gracin). It's just too trendy for me and not a real name. A son who is gray. Eh, not appealing. I recognize teh smooth sound and all, but it's just not my style. I would go with other trendy names like Arden, Noah or Wesley before this, and maybe use Gavin if I wanted a G-name. Lachlan - It's a decent name in and of itself, I am just not a fan of the sound. Plus, it is very culture-specific and would bother me on a child with no celtic blood-ties. Also, nickname Lach... makes me think I need to cough. Leland or Carlisle would be nice alternatives. Theo - Like this as a nickname. I would use Theodore, Theophilus, Thaddeus, etc instead. (love Theo girl names too!)______________________________________________

I love your descriptions about the ones you like describes how I feel about them exactly. . It's interesting that you see Cora as nicknamey cause I would personally see the full names you've listed as excessive, except for Coralie, that is pretty. I don't think many people in our part of the world worry about Lachlan being culture specific, it's very popular in Australia and I think it's in the top 100 here in NZ. I also love Leland, I took it off my favourites list because it's a bit different and a lot of people didn't like it IRL

I was a huge fan of a TV show called Monk (detective series) and the police Captain was named Leland Stottelmyer (sp?). I though "great name!" back when the show started (maybe 15 years ago)... so I find it totally usable. As for excessive names... yeah, that is kinda my thing. (Leontine, Melisande, Eudora and Camille are our top names for a girl).
