Sighting - Apollonia!
These days I work at a women's shoe store and I overheard a mother scold to her toddler, "Apollonia, put it down!" I thought maybe I'd misheard but moments later she said, "Come on. Apollonia! Sit down! Apollonia!"
I was very surprised to hear it on such a little kid but I'm not a big fan of the name (I have an irrational prejudice against the letter P). Guess the parents are either really into Prince or really into Greek mythology.

I think Apollonia is lovely. I also like Apollinaria. Wouldn't use them, though.
I babysit an Apollina
Her parents are French, she goes to kindergarten with my middle one and she has no nickname either.
I was calling her Apollonia at first until she finally corrected me...oops.
I don't have trouble picturing it on a real kid now. She's very sweet.

Apollina is really pretty! Is it like "apple-eena"? How do you say it?
Pretty much, except more of an o sound in the middle. She's a cute kid.
I'm so glad to see this being used. I love Apollonia.
No...
Apollonia is seriously pretty. It's really lovely.
But the examples you gave show how much this doesn't work on a real person, sadly. It just seems silly and precious irl.
I love the name a lot, but it's made me realise this isn't a real name first name choice...

I'm predisposed to like names with a connection to Greek mytholgy anyway. But the name Apollonia was etched in my heart when I saw "The Godfather, Part I." When a young Al Pacino is sent by his family to hide out in Sicily he meets a local girl named Apollonia. Wow. I don't think she has a single line, but scenes with her in it mesmerized me. Plus, the nn Polly would be cute. :0)

Ooo - oooh. How about this? In 'Love in a Cold Climate" (or is it the sequel?) there's a minor character named Leopoldine. She goes by Polly. Is that great or what? :0)

Total ditto! She was gorgeous and so was her name.
I tried to post a link but it wasn't working for some reason. If you go to youtube and search "Apollonia" and "Le Parrain" you will get a swoon-worthy 5 minute clip from the movie. (Oh, to be courted, . . . just not by a mobster . . . .) :0)
