Era and E names
I recently came across the name Era which I think is quite lovely but I've spoken to people who think it is a bit too unusual. What do you all think, and what are some favourite names beginning with E maybe ones that are considered a bit unusual by some. I just found out that Era is actually Albanian for wind, does that change whether it is still a word name in English. Favourite Unusual E Names
Eulalia
Evelina
Eliana
Elvira
Evren
Endzela
Elva
Elah

I can see the appeal. I like names like Ida (pn. Ee-də), and Eira (Ay-rə) too. There are quite a few unusual E names on my list as well:Evanthe
Elaphia
Edana
Eibhlin (although this is said almost like Evelyn- EV-Lynn)
Eira
Eirlys (kind of like Air-liss)
Eldora
Elke/Elka (although not that unusual in some places)
Elora
Elowen
Elpis
Evanora/Evadora
Evastra
Elspeth
Endora
Endrana
Enfys
Enna
Eseld
Erianthe
Euthenia
Evameria
Evelina
EumeliaOkay, maybe more than a few...

I know what you mean, it does remind me of a period of time, which is what people I've talked to has said.
How do you pronounce Eira.

I pronounce it IE-ra but most people I've seen pronounce it AY-ra or AIR-a.

I don't care for it. But then again, I don't care for most word names. I know it's an actual name, but all I can think of is the phrase "End of an era". Some of my fav E names:Elora

Evelina
Evangeline

Ah! I forgot about Elora. Elora Danan! I seriously wondered for a while whether people would notice if I named a child Elora Danan. ;)I would make a perfect sibset name to a fantasy Caspian, Aravis or Miriel. And, also out me as a nerd.

I think Era is simple and sweet, however as word names go... it's not my favorite. I am of the impression that words-names used as names should convey an appealing image or concept. Time is not super appealing to me. The sound of the word is quite striking though. However, I do like the similar Hera, if that makes a difference. My favorite, unusual, E-name is Evren. It is unisex and means "cosmos/universe". We had it as our top choice for a boy for a couple years and only recently switched it out. I know that a lot of people online like it for a girl... but anyone who likes the name is far and few. Some others that I have liked for a while:
Emer - so sweet and simple. If I thought people could pronounce it universally... I would advocate for it in a heartbeat. Edgar - It's almost clunky and reminds me of a curmudgeonly old man... but also an adorable kid. Love names with versatility like that. Eudora - Just think this is incredibly pretty and interesting to look at. Euda and Eudie make adorable nicknames too. Eleni and Eliora - One Greek, the other Hebrew... both lovely. They are not that unusual in certain culture groups, but they definately are uncommon in the US. Elodie and Elodia - becoming more popular, but still just great names and interesting spellings. You could never call these boring. Enoch and Erez are Biblical names for boys that both look and sound great. They are also simple and strong, so I just like them. Esti, Estelle, and Esta are also GPs of mine.
Ebenezer, Ellis and Ephraim are GPs for boys.
