Is Caspian serious?
I'm going back to my old favourite Caspian. I really really love it and I love Cas/Cassie as a nickname for a boy. However i'm not sure it's a 'serious' name. I mainly loved it as a kid because of Narnia, but I don't know if it seems like a childish name because of it. I teach two Anakin's at school and i'm worried that it Caspian doesn't sound like a 'grown up' name.Does Caspian & THeodora work well as a sibset? Or Caspian and Alfred/WilfredWould Casper or Calvin be better?

I don't think Caspian sounds like a name, period. I might be biased since I don't really like the Narnia books. I just see it as yet another location name used as a first name.

Keep in mind that Caspian is also a sea so it has that for credibility. I think Caspian is as serious as you make it. Pair with another serious name and it's serious. Pair it with something playful and cutesy and it becomes less credible.I think it ages fine (due in part to the character being an adult perhaps). And I love Cas too.

I really dislike Caspian because it to me it sounds pretentious and effeminate, but I don't think it's childish or not serious. I don't see a problem with a Caspian and Theodora sibset as far as clash in styles or anything. I dislike Casper also. Calvin is a million times better than Casper--it's one of my favorites.

I think it's only about 20% flakey and gets more serious when it's actually used. Not childish, placey. Like India. It's alright as a brother to Theodora, Alfred, Wilfred.
Caspar would match better. Calvin wouldn't be any better IMO.

For me Caspian is a bit much for real life. Like Theodore, Casper is also going to get quite popular I think. I much prefer Calvin.

I don't automatically think of Narnia when I think of Caspian even though that seems to be its origin, in the same way that Anakin is purely Star Wars. Maybe it is because of similar names like Casper.I think Caspian & Theodora work well for a sibset.

I think Caspian is 100 % usable. I know a little Caspian (he's about 4 years old) and he fits right in with boys called Bastian or Fabian. Anakin on the other hand might be a bit too weird to use on a real person. It sounds more like a cat name to me.

I will say that for me, nothing could go beyond the feeling of pretentiousness and childishness that Caspian conjures for me. I used to hate Atticus on this level, but that dislike as softened, and Caspian as captured that flag.

Caspian I think is a serious name. Certainly more serious then Anakin
Cas would be a nice nickname for a boy. Cassie I see more as a girls name
I think Caspian and Theodora works very well
Also like Caspian and Isadora
Caspian and Elliott or Caspian and Dorian

Caspian (and Anakin) do sound childish, or rather they sound like names a childish, or at least very ostentatiously "geeky" young parents would give as names. I mean, really. I can't be sure about Caspian, but I do know Anakin was not considered a name or even a word till Star Wars came along. Caspian sounds like it could have been a name before Narnia, if only because it's a place name.Cassie and even Cass sound like girls' nicknames, and Anakin, if it sounds like anything at all, sounds like a gooey pet name for Anna.Calvin is very different from Caspian, but it definitely seems more mature as a name choice. Casper also has kind of a goofy, kids-naming-their-stuffed-animals vibe, but also a trendy wannabe vibe that makes it a bit less goofy than Caspian.

I liked Caspian when I first read the books in middle school. I agree that the sea with the same name also helps make the name more 'grown up' on a person than Anakin. I like Caspian and Theodora. I'm not a fan of Casper or Calvin.

I love the thought of Caspian nn Cas/Cassie!
I taught a Caspian when I was a sub. He was nine then. A really nice boy. I never really thought much about his name. It worked and in real life it wasn't weird in any way. There was also a boy named Diamond in that class.
Caspian is a serious name in my opinion. I would not compare Caspian to Anakin. Thumbs up for Caspian and Theodora as a sibset! Very nice!

Thanks! :)It's nice to know that you had a nice Caspian :)

I have met two Caspians in my life so far. One was a year younger than me when I was in primary school (he was about 8 or 9)
And the other (maybe 10) I met a few years ago. He went by Cassy. I told him my name is Cassie too, that's how I found out his name was Caspian.I don't think of Narnia. If it wasn't too close to my name Id consider using it for a son.

I say use it. I think it's a very nice name. Very hansome. I love a lot of weird names for boys. Anderson being the weirdest I can think of at the moment. Most people think it's weird because it is seen as a total surname, but I still love it. For the record, it's wau better than Anakin. That name just doesn't seem usable because pretty much everyone knows Star Wars and he's a main guy. And Anakin isn't common, but it's well known. Anyways, i really like it. I tend to like a lot of boy names that start with C or J.

I think Caspian works just fine. It's not strange or childish, and I think Anakin is far worse. Caspian and Theodora could work for siblings, but Caspian and Alfred or Wilfred is too much of a stretch.
Personally, I prefer Casper, Caspar or Kaspar over Caspian.

I think I like Caspian most, but I think husband prefers Casper.

I think it sounds similar enough to Caspar to be considered serious. It's way more serious than Anakin as well, as the name is not that well known. However, I would stead clear of the nickname Cas/Cassie which is very feminine and less serious.I do think Caspian and Theodora sound good together. Personally, I like the combo Caspian Edmund.

I've taught a little boy named Cassidy who went by Cass/Cassie and it was really cool on him. He was also a really lovely boy so I have fond memories of the name.Caspian Edmund is possibly too Narnia for me!

I definitely think Caspian is usable, especially these days when anything goes. I like the name and always think of the Narnia reference myself. Caspian and Theodora could work for siblings, I mean why not? Alfred and Wilfred seem super old and frumpy next to Caspian though. I especially wouldn't use Wilfred because of the stupid dog / human show of the same name. Casper is ok, but I prefer Caspian. Calvin I quite like and Cal is a cute nn.

Yay. I'm glad that everyone is seeing Caspian as a serious enough name. Calvin just kinda came to me today.. i've toyed with it for a bit, but i'm really starting to like it.

I really like the name Caspian. I do associate it with the Narnia character, but there's also a sea which predates those books.I don't think it's really in the same category as Anakin (and, holy crap, two?? in one school???), since for one thing the sea as mentioned above but also because the Narnia books are older than the Star Wars films, and the older something this the more legit it feels in general. Caspian is also a lot easier to shorten - what do you do with Anakin, anyway? Ana? Ani? Cas at least has a strong masculine sound to it (and is also the nickname of Castiel from 'Supernatural', which is a bonus for me but probably not for everyone).I love Caspian & Theodora as a sibset. :) Caspian & Alfred is nice too. Not really a fan of Wilfred as a first name, though.I'm not a fan of either Casper ("the Friendly Ghost") or Calvin ("and Hobbes"). I'd pic Caspian over both any day.

I'm glad that you don't put it in the same category as Anakin, it was just a thought that had crossed my mind.:)

I've never read the Narnia books, so I don't see that with the name. I think of the Caspian Sea first. I think it could definitely work and I like the nn Cas.I would not go with Casper as I would think of 'the friendly ghost', although, I don't know how many kids nowadays have heard of that. Calvin is good too. If our last name didn't end in an N, it would have been on my lists.

Thanks! I think I love Caspian more, but I think husband loves Casper more. lol

You could use Casper as a nickname for Caspian. Then both of you get a name that you are fond of.

That is true. However, I'm actually quite happy to compromise and use Casper, both names are super awesome!

Casper is better (way more serious) by miles.

Well, if you're happy with Casper, then use that! It's a great name as well. I just didn't know if you liked Casper or not.
