name for a dog
I am extremely excited, as I have reserved a dog at the shelter and she is soon to come and live with me :) I am so looking forward to having her around. She needs a little help with nervousness, but she is a lovely, beautiful springer spaniel cross... something. She looks like a very small springer, so maybe she is a sprocker, black and white. She is 8 months old, very curious and a busy little girl when she isn't too shy.
Anyway, her name is Pixie. I always imagined myself with a male dog, so I was all ready to call him Toby. Now I don't know what to choose.
So what would you call a female, black and white spaniel puppy? Should I stick with Pixie?

She sounds adorable, congratulations!
If you were really set on naming your dog Toby then name her Toby. It's unisex and even if it wasn't, dogs don't care what gender their names are. I have a female dog named Jerry Lee and I've never had any problems with it.
As for Pixie, do you like it? Remember that you will hopefully be saying this name repeatedly everyday for the next ten+ years, so if you don't like Pixie then change it or else you might regret it a few years from now when it won't be easy to change.
If she was my dog, I'd probably name her after a character, person, a GP name, or something else that she reminded me of.
Edit: Oops, I took too long to post, but I hope what I said can still be helpful. Good luck with your new pup!

thank you - It certainly can! I like your idea of naming after a character.
thank you all
I think I am going to stick with Pixie - now, nothing else seems to fit. I'm not sure yet if she knows it or not, I called her a few times when I met her but she was very nervous and busy so I'm not sure she was listening. (There were also a lot of other dogs barking, and she is in season).

Congratulations on your new Pet!
If your dog already knows her name, I'd keep Pixie as is. Otherwise, how about Maggie?
I wish you many warm memories with your new pet.

Pixie is a good name for a little dog. I'd stick with it.
