Does anyone else hate the name...
...Lola?I think it is ugly, and gross. What is your opinion? **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

I actually think it’s really pretty. :)

I find it flimsy and insubstantial, but not horrible as a nickname. Lala and Lola are common childhood nicknames for names like Lorena, Laura, Loredana, Leonarda, Leonida, etc. here. I also know a Dolores and a Mariola whose families call them Lola.

I agree. It has a sticky and yucky feel to me. It's difficult to take serious to me.

Yes and no. No I think by itself its an okay name with an okay girly sound, though no something I'd expect to see irl. Yes I hate it because all I can see is an annoying shih tzu dog owned by a girl I have bad blood with now, but that's a personal thing and not tied to the sound or visual appeal of the name. I didn't like it before she got the dog though, but I can't remember what wasn't appealing about it originally

I wouldn't expect to meet one! My associations are good, though. First, when we were schoolgirls my friend's family had a little black spaniel called Lola because as a puppy she'd reminded the adults of a Spanish dancer. As she aged, her ears turned grey and her face remained black, so she resembled an African judge in a British colony, wearing a long, curly wig. Dear little dog.And then there are the Kinks, and the original sweet transvestite who makes a little boy a man ...

I don't hate it, but i am ok with it,
it reminds me too much of the kinks-Lola

Nope, I’ve always felt the same way. I don’t mind it as a nickname but I know few adult females that would fit the name “Lola”.

It sounds like the name of a little dog.

This is my MIL's name. I love her, so I like her name.

Love the name Lola. How does the name Lola offend someone so much to deem it gross? All of the Lola’s I’ve encountered have been full of life and beautiful inside and out.

I don't hate it. I don't think it's ugly or gross. But I don't exactly like it, either. I think it has an overly sexy image. It's somewhat hard to take seriously.

I most certainly do not hate it. It’s my great-great-grandmother’s name. She had fifteen children!

Don’t like it, it honestly sounds babyish to me. I much prefer Layla and Leila.

I don't hate it. I used to love it when I first heard it in the Kinks song. That faded because there's just not much there. I think the syllables are cute, though.

I strongly dislike the sound of it.

Meh, it’s not the worst, a little too childish, but not bad. I mean, I wouldn’t name a character or baby it, but I wouldn’t mind meeting one.

Yes, it’s awful. I always group it with Layla, Lexi and Lacey which give me similar vibes.

I don’t hate it, but I do find it ugly and gross and other negative associations. I would never use it.

I don't hate it or think it's ugly or gross or anything.I just have a sort of indifference towards it.

I think it sounds pretentious.

Yeah, I think it's kind of ugly.
It's weird that it seems to have been a magnet for icky associations. It shouldn't deserve that.
I struggle to think of it without them, though.

Yes. It means "grandma" in Filipino so I think of it as old ladyish and frumpy, and it's unattractive and insubstantial even without that association.

I think a lot of people read it as flashy or sexualized...But I don't really. It's cutesy because it's a nickname, but other than that, I like it okay. It reminds me of Ginger and Lilah a bit.

I went through a brief phase of thinking it was cute. It seemed kind of bohemian to me when I was young and because I was surrounded by people with such traditional names, the bohemian appealed. I feel like for a while it was trendy in Hollywood and then it sort of died out. I think because people realized that it's actually not substantial enough to be a real name. Also, I think the name fizzled out because of the negative associations people have with the name Lola. Lola is a "coquette," a temptress, Humbert's victim in Lolita. The name has baggage.

Yes. I hate the sound of it, I hate the looks of it. It’s just ugly.

I think it's cute for a dog. Or a bunny - Lola Rabbit anyone? Not a cat, strangely.
Definitely not a human.I'm not convinced I agree with your 'ugly' and 'gross' assessment but I sure think it's tacky and babyish.

I really don’t like it and the song doesn’t add to the appeal.“ Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl”.
