Bella
WDYT of Bella? What should it be a NN for?Do you think a person could grow up with this name and escape the "Twilight" comparison? **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

I think it’s kinda cute. A little annoying, but definitely better than a lot of other names.I like it best as a nickname for Isabella, but I know an Isabel who is nn Bella...
I also know two who are simply Bella, because their moms wanted to name them exactly what they wanted them called. Strangely enough, after reading the responses, I realIzed that as far as I know, I have never, ever, met a dog or animal named Bella!I think so. Both of my friends that named their girls Bella (both in different states, and have never met the other) simply liked the name Bella, and didn’t know anything about Twilight.
(which to be honest, I don’t either. Basically what I know about Twilight, is what people here in BtN have commented about names).

I hate it. It's such a spoiled little princess name. Strangely, I do like Belle as a nickname for Isabelle.I think Bella is common enough in the little girl and dog world that Twilight wouldn't really be a problem. I also think that Twilight is becoming less relevant culturally than it used to be. I try to use it as an example when I teach, but oftentimes the college kids now haven't read/watched it.

Twilight was huge when I was in high school and that’s not even my first association. I think more of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, or maybe of a princess in general? Lots of people in my area seem to name their dogs Bella. That being said, I have always thought Bella is one of the worst names out there. :/ I hate it less for a dog, but on a human it especially makes me think the parents have a need for their daughter to be a princess. It’s bubblegum pink plastic toys and decor. I know I’m projecting hard! Pink decor and princess vibes are fine, but Bella strikes me as artificially fancy in ways even a kid could see through. My feelings are just pretty strongly negative for this name and I’m surprised it’s been so popular for so long. It also just sounds ugly to me. I will say Arabella or something is better than Isabella for whatever reason in my head.

It's okay. It's common enough that it wouldn't just be associated with Twilight. Isabella, Annabella, Arabella, Bellerose, Belladonna, Belphoebe

My grandparents had a dog called Bella in the 1970s!

We had one in the 1980s called Bellabark! She was a Standard Schnauzer, very pretty, and she woofed a lot. It seemed like a good idea at the time ...

Bland, overused, annoyingly girly and overall annoying. I prefer Belle. The “Twilight” comparison has probably worn off by now, considering how almost everyone is naming their kid, dog, and dog’s mother Bella.

Bella has grown on me and is now a name I like a lot. As for the Twilight character, she was Isabella Marie (yeah, I weirdly remember that) and just went by Bella. I think it makes the most sense as a nickname for someone whose name ends in -bella. Like Isabella, Arabella, Annabella, Maybella etc. I think I may still prefer it as a nickname but if it’s “just” Bella, then I want it to be part of a combo. “Bella-Louise” or something. I think a person could easily grow up with Bella. AFAIK, Twilight isn’t a thing anymore with kids and teens. On a sidenote: I LOVE most of the Twilight names. Somehow, Stephenie Meyer managed to choose a lot of the names I love.

It's okay, I liked it a lot as a very young teenager, but not so much anymore. It still makes me think of Twilight a lot, which is definitely not a good thing (I mean I like watching it for the laughs but I wouldn't want to be associated with the character. It also makes me think of the horrible murder case in which one of the little girls was named Bella Marie. That was just heartbreaking.Overall I think it will not age well. I also dislike Isabella. No, I think it will never escape Twilight, at least not for people who grew up with it. No idea how the films and books will do with future generations, but my guess is that the films could become awful cult classics (as in "so bad they're funny") watched by generation after generation. Kind of like "Dirty Dancing" (even though that is much better of course).I am also confused at it rising again, I thought its good times were already over.I think I actually prefer Bella to Isabella. Bella is more spunky and makes me think of bright pink colors, Isabella feels bland.I guess if I had to use it I would use it as a nickname for Annabel, which is a name I love. I'd rather call her Annabel, though. Maribel is nice as well.

I think the name is so common now Twilight isn't really the first thing that comes to mind. It also really isn't that popular with kids anymore.I think Bella can just be a name on its own. Or short for:Mirabella
Arabella
Isabella
AnnabellaOr any name ending in *Bel or *belle. I wouldn't be thrown by an Isabel "Bella".

I don't know....I think it works on its own and shouldn't be a nickname for anything. I liked Twilight and would happily name a girl baby after the character. But I don't like the name. It's very vampiry which I guess is kinda the whole point but still.

I think of it as 19th century, as it features twice in my family tree: both were actually Isabella. In the present day, it is totally canine! I missed out on Twilight, quite intentionally, so maybe, maybe not. Is Twilight still a thing, or has it faded?

I'v known so darned many pets named Bella, I think of that before "Twilight". I think I prefer just Belle for that reason. I don't think it needs to be a nickname. It can stand alone in my opinion.
