I've heard Essie as a nn for Esther, but never as a stand-alone. And I cannot think that it's a good idea. Most Esther people dont' feel the need of it anyway, and she has no alternative but the overused Anna ... clearly the parents like using nns as fns, but Bert works better than Essie for sure.
