Marquita
The database says Marquita is African American in origin, a feminine form of Marquis. However there was a Puerto Rican singer named Marquita Rivera (1922-2002). Could it possibly be Spanish in origin?

Marquito is a diminutive of Marcos / Marco... perhaps it's a feminine form of these names?ETA: According to wiki, Marquita Rivera's formal name was "María Heroina". I don't know how it works in Spanish, but in Portuguese I've definitely heard Mariquinhas / Mariquitas / Marquitas as short for Maria as well. This etimology seems more likely in my opinion.
