Marciano could be the Italian form of the Latin name Marcianus. Marcianus would be the surname of a man adopted by a "Marcus" family ("gens Marcia").
For example, if Lucius MARCUS or Aurelia MARCIA adopts a boy named Julius FABIUS, the boy becomes Julius FABIUS MARCIANUS, or Julius MARCIANUS. An adopted girl would be Julia FABIA MARCIANA or Julia MARCIANA.
