It’s been ten years since we last met; Felix and Jess have celebrated twenty years of marriage, and Annabelle has left the nest. There are also two more boys in the family—Calum is seven and Bennett is six. Bennett was decidedly Jess’s last pregnancy, so soon after his birth, she had her tubes tied.
Annabelle is in college, going to Virginia State for a career as a radio DJ. She really enjoys her time there, but she also loves to come home and spend time with family.
Violet and Jasper are in high school, and Jasper happens to be in Felix’s math class. Some of his friends tease him about being the teacher’s son, but Jasper doesn’t let it get to him. As for Violet, she wants to be an art teacher, and she’s already submitted her application to Virginia State.
Matilda has grown up to be a very smart girl, despite her being a preemie. She is one of the smallest in her class, but she’s not bothered by it at all; in fact, she’s made friends with another kid who was also a preemie. She also gets mostly A’s and B’s in her classes.
Elizabeth and Evangeline are in fifth grade and share a class together. Telling them apart is always a guessing game with their friends, and they often pull pranks on the teacher. But despite them being identical twins, the two girls have different personalities. Elizabeth is a rebel and likes to live in the moment; Evangeline is more conservative and concentrates more on schoolwork than having fun.
Calum has an affinity for math, just like his father. Whenever Bennett has a math problem he can’t work out, Calum is always more than happy to help. Felix predicts that he’ll become a teacher like himself, but he’s willing to let him choose his career path.
Bennett has just entered first grade, and he has the same teacher Annabelle had when she was there. Bennett adores her, and he’s learning a lot in her class.
Both Blake and Trixie have unfortunately crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Blake at age fifteen and Trixie at age eleven. Blake had succumbed to liver cancer and Trixie lost a battle with heart disease; both dogs are buried in Felix and Jess’s backyard next to each other, with their graves marked with headstones. To replace them, which wasn’t an easy task to do, Felix and Jess recently adopted a two-year-old female Australian shepherd named Sammy. Sammy is happy and healthy as can be, and she loves to do tricks and go for walks.
