It sounds like the word "darn", but otherwise I like this Dutch name.
Daan is also used as a feminine name in Dutch, as a short form of Daniëlle and Danique. However, Daan is more common for males. So, I think that the "Gender" of this name should be changed from "Masculine" to "Masculine & Feminine", and the " Meaning & History" section of this name should be changed to read, "Short form of Daniël, Daniëlle, or Danique".Sources: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unisex_name

Daan is STILL in the Top 10 in the Netherlands, it has been all my life. It surprises me quite a bit, I'd expect people would start not using this name as much upon seeing how popular it is.
Strange how this is #1 in the Netherlands, wouldn't it be like naming your kid just Dan in the US?
This name is also used in Limburgish. The Limburgish pronunciation of the name is the same as the Dutch pronunciation.
This name is very popular in the Netherlands right now. I know about 10 Daans and all of them are under 20. I wouldn't use it myself because of this and also because I would use Daniël as the full name but I do like the name. It's short and strong and I get why so many people use it.
Dutch pronunciation is DAHN. [noted -ed]
