Comments for the name Gala

A famous bearer of the name was Gala Dali, wife and muse of the surrealist artist Salvador Dali.

Gala was actually first married to fellow surrealist Paul Eluard, whom she met at a turburculosis sanitarium (both Gala and Eluard suffered from the disease). She met Dali at a show of his painting involving human excrement during which Dali had goat excrement smeared on his armpits. She questioned him as to his fascination with excrement and he replied that it was fear that fascinated him, fear of excrement, fear of death, and his phobia of grasshoppers, at which point Gala reportedly exclaimed "By dear boy, we shall never leave each other!" They later married.

I love this name. So pretty and regal!

This is one of my online nicknames, although I use it as a short form of "Galaxia" instead. I've always pronounced it "gah-lah". How do other people say it? I think it's a really cute name!

Gala was the name of Salvador Dali's wife. I think it comes from "Galatea", a name used in a Cervantes' novel, called "La Galatea".
