Whenever I think of the name Georgia, I can only think of the song, "Georgia on My Mind," by Ray Charles. One of the most heartfelt and beautiful songs I have ever listened to.

My name is Savannah, named after the city Savannah, Georgia. I’m currently 8 months pregnant with our first and we are planning to name her Jorja. Of course I wanted to spell it Georgia to play off my name and to play the sing “Georgia On My Mind” to her but then thought Georgia looked too masculine and could easily be mistaken for Georgie and looked too much like George. I’m so torn on it but I still think even though the spelling is different the meaning to us is the same; still plays off my name, still can play the song for her, and it still is very classy and feminine.

I have a granddaughter named Georgia. I have 9 grandchildren with 3 girls and it is my favourite name. For a nickname she's Gigi, which the family has shortened to Gig (pronounced jeej) and I still love it. She's 7 now and I think it's a fun girl's name but it will be an elegant woman's name.

Would be a nice name for a daughter, but any surname she'd have would probably make it sound more like a place, such as Georgia Field or Georgia West, for instance.

Hushpuppy, convenient that you pick geography related last names, I can give examples how Georgia doesn't have to sound like it's a map: Georgia Taylor, Georgia Darling, Georgia Collins and Georgia Swift. That doesn't sound like states, I think Georgia is a beautiful name and it sounds really sweet. It's a classic and it doesn't or shouldn't matter that it's becoming popular. All that matters is that you like it as a name.

It’s an okay name, personally I think names with nicknames are cute, and you can easily just call out one syllable to get their attention. I don’t like how the nickname would be Georgie.

Beautiful name! One of my favorite feminine variations of the name George. We have a sweet cousin by the name Georgia, so I have a good impression her name.

My name is also Georgia. Being named after my father (george) makes me feel as though my name is that much more beautiful and special. Although where I live people usually replace the a with an e, and call me Georgie. It is very frustrating. I always hated having my beautiful name misspelled or incorrectly pronounced. Having it turned into a mockery of "Georgie" and the silly nursery rhyme would soon follow, was horrid.

I have a daughter named Georgiana Margaret Grace.

My name is Georgia and although mostly I find people have a generally good perception of the name, I've always found it overly common in people my age (I'm a 90s child) so I never found it special. I don't hate it as much as I did growing up though, because I've grown to like George, which is close. I don't like the Jorja spelling though, it's horrible and I've seen people spell my name that way (like in Starbucks) and it makes me cringe. Really, is it that difficult to learn how to spell a word that is also the name of a country and a state in America not to mention a group of islands? Also, I've suffered my whole life with people imagining there is an 'n' anywhere in my name thus calling me Georgina.

I am 61 years old and my birth was registered in 1952 in Scotland. My father was told he couldn't register my name because no one in Glasgow had ever been called that before. My father insisted and named me Georgia. I don't really know if I was the first but would love to know.
I did feel a bit self conscience of my modern name when at school and couldn't imagine being old and having my name, but here I am nearly a pensioner and really like it and the meaning of Georgia is me to a T!

This is my name and I love it. However, it used to be (decades ago -- I'm old) that everyone could spell it. Now I have to spell it out for people.
