I like pronouncing it "IKS-chul". It sounds cool and different.

I've fallen in love with this name. I first heard it in the film "Apocalypto", when a village woman prays to the goddess Ixchel. The pronunciation sounds so beautiful and soft. I love the spelling as well. (It's very Mayan, and I like names with "x"s in them. It looks cool :) And I love mythological names. This name is very uncommon, but not unusable outside Mexico. It's far simpler than other mythological names, like Xochiquetzal. If you are thinking about naming your daughter Ixchel, go ahead. It's a lovely name with a beautiful history.

I know a girl named this, and it’s pronounced ick-shell. But be careful when considering this - people, for some reason, call her “eggshell”...

On a side note, it’s still very pretty.
