In the Oscar-winning film 'Gladiator', Russell Crowe plays Maximus Decimus Meridius, a Roman general who is deposed by the emperor's jealous son Commodus and is forced to become a gladiator after the murder of his wife and son.
I guess this name drastically shot in popularity after the film "Gladiator" was released. It's a Latin name, and sounds very pretentious and out of place in the 21st century. God knows what the appeal of these -ius names is. Cassius and Julius are alright, but I really dislike Maximus and Atticus.
