I think this name is such a fun name beacuse you can make so many nicknames from it. My name is Melinda and i get called so many nicknames Mel, Mindy, Melly, Minda, Melly Belly, Lindy, Linda, Minya (this one stuck because my little brother couldn't pronounce it properly).
I have a friend named Melinda, and her nickname is Lynny. I think Melinda is a beautiful name.

Melinda Sordino, the main character of 'Speak', is the first thing that comes to mind for me with the name Melinda. Kristen Stewart also portrayed Melinda Sordino in the movie Speak (2004).
I have a friend named Melinda, we call her Mel-Mel sometimes. This name is very pretty.

I love this name. I am surprised that it hasn't come back into popularity but on the flip side it is nice that it isn't overused. On the show Ghost Whisperer, the main character is Melinda Gordon played by Jennifer Love Hewitt.

I have an ancestor named Melinda, who was born in the early 1800s, so the name has been around for at least 200 years.
Melinda appeared on the top 1000 list briefly during the 1880's and 1890's but was too popular. It came back into usage in the 1940's with its most popular year being the 1970's and dropped off the top 1000 list in the year 2000.

Melinda is my name. A lot of people call me Melissa and it is annoying. But I love my name because not many people have it.
I love this name, as it is my name. The thing is, as the website says, it's a modern name, coined in the 18th Century. It hasn't caught on yet. But it will. I love it because it's so pretty. I think it's as pretty as Isabella or Amelia. It just needs to catch on. I get Mellie a lot. I think Mellie or Melly is a very cute nickname.
I love it, and it sounds a bit like my own name (Matilda). The main character I my book (The Silver Triangel) is named Melinda. I think it's plain gorgeous.
I love my name! :) Most of my friends and family call me Mellie now. But when I was younger it was Mindy. I've also been called Melynn, Mel, Lynn -- just about everything but Linda -- that's my mom!
I love this name. I think it sounds really pretty and I have loved it since I first heard it (on Charmed). But I don't like any nicknames for it especially Linda (sorry if your name's Linda). I really hope it becomes popular again since it's on Ghost Whisperer (which I love by the way lol).

My name is Melinda, and for the most part I like it. However, for some reason it tends to get misspelled, like Malinda. And some people think it is long, so I get called Mel and Mel-Mel, especially on the volleyball court.
I like neither the nickname Mel nor the name Linda, so the combination isn't going to sound good for me either. I just don't think it sounds all that pretty.
Melinda Tentrees - One of Barbra Streisand's characters in "On A Clear Day". The present-day Daisy Gamble goes to a psychiatrist to quit her smoking habit. Under hypnosis, Melinda Tentrees appears. Melinda lived in the 1800's and Daisy is Melinda reincarnated. A very entertaining movie, with wonderful songs sung by Barbra S.
I didn't used to like this name, but it's grown on me. I associate it with a young doctor with green eyes (probably because of Melinda Goodwinter from the Cat Who series). I hate the nickname Linda though.

Melinda Goodwinter from the Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun. She is a young doctor who ends up committing suicide.

An English compound name using either Melissa (sweet) or Melanie (black/dark) in combination with Linda (serpent) and therefore meaning (black/dark serpent) or (sweet serpent).
My name's Melinda. I love the name my Mum has chosen for me. I was born in 1984 and I only knew a couple of other Melinda's growing up, I love that it is not overly used. I like my name and am not offended if someone else doesn't :) Plenty of names out there I dislike myself!
Though it's possible the use of Belinda in Italian literature is older, in England Melinda seems to be about as old as Belinda. For example, Aphra Behn's famous poem "The Coquette" is about a Melinda, and this was published around 1680, eight years earlier than the first English literary use of Belinda mentioned in the comments about Belinda on this site.
