ROXANA is the Greek form of an Iranian (Persian) name. The name is ROSHANAK which means "little star". ROSHANAK was the official wife of Alexander the Great. Roshanak was the daughter of an Iranian noble man. When she married Alexander, her name became popular in other countries. Since the original name ROSHANAK was hard to pronounce for Greeks, they changed it to ROXANA. The Iranian name Roshanak is a popular name in modern day Iran.

I think this is a nice name. It evens means dawn. Sweet!
A pretty, classy name. I think it's nice but instead of being called "Roxy" I like the nickname "Anny" better. :)

This is my name and I love it! I'm very proud of its Asian origins, it was brought to us by the Gypsies.

It's a man's name at the origin, and it was given to the first wife of Alexander the great, Roxana, daughter of Darius the 3rd, emperor of Persia. She is said to have been a very beatiful and passionate woman. It means something like "brightful/shiny" or "star".

I love this name, especially the meaning. It has such a pretty flow to it.
I really like this name. It sounds like a name that would belong to someone strong, punkish, and clever. However, I am less passionate about the nickname of "Roxy".
This is really cool, because my name is Roxana. My nickname is Roxy. I was born and raised in Sweden, but my bloodline is Persian. So everybody calls me IceRoxyy! Yes, this is one of the best names in the world. And I don't mean because my name is Roxana, but because you can experiment with it, and change it into different names.
I think this is an absolutely wonderful name, really beautiful and strong-sounding, although despite this, I do not consider this being usable, except on somebody who is Middle Eastern or of Persian/Middle Eastern descent. I think the name Roxanne is more of a westernized version, and could be usable for Europeans, but, unfortunately, I don't like this variant.
My name at birth was Roxann. Looking into every possible definition of my name I found that it's origin is Persian. Translating "princess of Persia". Never saw it spelled the same way though.
It is the name of the only wife of the famous Alexander the Great, at time in which kings had many wives, she was his only wife... there are many fictional novels written about her, Rukhsana. Very beautiful name.
