Sorry, but this name sounds very tacky, and even borderline ghetto. Names like this sound very foreign on American (as well as Canadian, British, and Australian) people that don't have any South American heritage. The name reminds me of no other person than the singer Shakira, and I dislike her voice and music very much. Everyone wpould assume you named your daughter after her, even if you just liked the name, not the singer, and that seems tacky. Kira sounds cool, though, just like Kiera/Keira, so you might consider using that instead.-- slight night shiver 5/6/2008
I have to disagree with the comment made about the name "Shakira" being tacky. Shakira is a beautiful, wholesome name. I have never heard about the singer named "Shakira", however, yes, most of the women I've met and heard about who bear this name are of Middle East descent, though this is dramatically changing. I must add that all the women I've met with this name are all incredibly beautiful!-- Anonymous User 4/17/2009
I like this name, and I also like Shakira's music. I don't find it tacky or trashy at all. However, I think this name would look kind of strange on someone not of Middle Eastern descent. No offense.-- bananarama 4/8/2010
