Message: "Zelda" - Behind the Name

Okay, I've been toying around with new names and trying to get a feel for how names group together and I stumbled across this unique-but-familiar name.
So . . . wdyt? I know I'm going to get bombarded by Legend of Zelda references and maybe the odd Zelda Fitzgerald, but other than that, how do you feel about it as a name. The sound, the tone? Can you see a Zelda in a second grade class? Can you see a Zelda in an office? Grandma Zelda, anyone?
Actually, I can picture that last one because my friend has a Grandma Zela (zee-la)

I really like this. I also really love the nicknames Zell, Zellie, and Zella. Especially Zell, for some reason. There's something uber-romantic about it to me. =)

You're right, it makes me think of my gameboy game... but I've always thought it was kind cool.

Zelda was my nn in college. Others in our group had funny and creative nns. I jokingly complained at not having one. They asked me what I wanted to be called. Off the top of my head I said, "Zelda" and darned if it didn't stick. No one else's did. After a while, I didn't think about it much. It was just a term of endearment.

Zelda FitzGerald definitely comes to mind. For that reason it conjures up the roaring 20's and silent film stars like Theda (Bara) and Pola (Negri). I think Zelda was an exotic sounding name for them, but that's just my guess. It has a vampy quality to it that I like. I know most people see it as a frumpy, "old" name. I choose to see it through the eyes of the teens/20's.

I quite like Zelda actually. I think the actor Robin Williams has a daughter named Zelda. Zelda does work on any age group though in my opinion.

Yes, Robin Williams has a daughter named Zelda (born in 1989). Zelda has a brother named Cody (born in 1992), and an older halfbrother named Zachary (born in 1983). :)

I love it! I also really like Zelde, which until now I thought I liked more than Zelda, but suddenly Zelda seems more appealing. I could picture all those things.

It's a great name. Zelda is something that sounds practical but lends itself to sweet nicknames like Zellie and Zella. It's one of those names (like Ramona) that I really like--and always forget that I like.

Ramona and Zelda would be great names for sisters, now that I think on it.

I don't care for it. I find Z names to be very unflattering, for some reason, making Zelda a rather ugly name to me. I also find it harsh sounding. Sorry.

Hey, no need to apologize for your opinions. I felt the same way about it for a long time, but all of the sudden it sounds nice to me. Kind of like how Bertha and Archibald have been growing on me(my tastes are getting old, I know).

"Old" names are good! Haha! Archibald is the name of one of my PPs, but I don't care for it. Who knows, though, I warmed up to Kipling, Blanche, and Nigel after naming my PP's those names, so maybe Archibald will grow on me. ;)
