[Opinions] Millie & Genie
My first post since February. Wow.What do you think about Millie? Personally, I am digging it. It is strong, but sweet, off-beat but accessible, ending in the –ee sound without sounding especially childish. WDYT?Another name I have been digging lately is Eugenia nn Genie (pr. like Jeanie), for all the same reasons I like Millie. So, WDYT about Eugenia nn Genie? Do Millie and Genie sound too similar for sisters? I’m thinking probably not (my sister and I both have names that end in the strong –ee sound, and we survived), but I worry anyway.

I love the name Millie, it's a fave of mine actually. Genie I'm not so keen on though.

Millie is too nn-y and childish for my taste for a full name. At first I was gonna rage against Genie, but as a nn for Eugenia, it's cute. :)

I've adored Eugenia ever since I met a young woman with the name. She went by Genia, but Genie works just as well. I love the nn Jeanie, so Genie is an easy transition. Go for it. Millie is adorable, but I think it needs a more formal name. I know a Millie in her 40's. It's short for Amelia. I can also see it short for: Melinda, Emily / Emilia, Camilla / Camille, Melisande / Millicent, Melina, Melanie, Mary, Eumelia (although not with a sister Eugenia), or Jamila. Great names. :-)

Millie is okay but a bit nn for my taste, it is fairly popular where I live.
Eugenia nn Genie? is lovely, I like Eugenie slightly more though
Millie and Genie as sisters would be fine for someone elses children, I would prefer Amelia and Eugenie with the nn Millie and Genie myself

May I ask what area you live? I'm in Illinois and I've never heard it here.

I live in England. Millie is the 20th most popular girls name here.I realise it isn't used as often in the USA so that shouldn't be a problem for you in Illinois :-)

I think Millie is adorable, much like Tillie. It feels slightly insubstantial on its own, but it's not the worst that can be said about a name. Eugenia is gorgeous, but I have an issue with Genie. I love the sound, and I think Jeanie is just charming, but I see magic bottles when I look at Genie. I know they sound the same, but I don't know. I could probably get over it as soon as I meat a little one because I do tend to love Eu- names, and I think Eugenia is lovely, so go for it. Millie and Genie are fine together.

While I do like Millie, it has a strong nickname-y sound to it, like it's supposed to be short for Millicent or Mildred or something.
Eugenia I'm not that fond of, but Genie's cute.As a sibset for two sisters, I think it'd be alright, if not a little cutesy.

I've just been thinking about Millie myself! I've had the song "Thoroughly Modern Millie" stuck in my head, and I'm finally warming to the name itself. I can definitely see it working on its own, since I'm not digging the names it nicknames for (except Mildred).I far prefer Jean nn Jeanie to Eugenia nn Genie, but I'm horribly biased on that point. ;) Eugenia nn Genie is fine for someone else, but it doesn't appeal to me at all.If Millie and Genie are too close, so are Amy and Ruby...and like you, we managed somehow.Array
