[Opinions] August or Atticus?
While trying to come up with August combos, I remembered an old favorite... Atticus. Unfortunately, they are too close for brothers. So what do you think... is August or Atticus better? Why? Thanks!

Atticus, no question.(m)Fell in love with the character in To Kill A Mockingbird and now I'm totally in love with the name.I don't particularly like the name August.

I love both......but if I were to have a son, I'd be more likely to name him Atticus than August, which is the result of me being ridiculously infatuated with Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.

Definitely August. Atticus makes me think of Attica & the prison riots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attica_Prison_riots), which is NOT a good association. It could be my association comes from living in NY, but I grew up in IN, and the riots happened before I was born. I'm thinking if I make this association, other Americans will, too.For August, I really like the nns Augie & Aggie.

AtticusI adore Atticus. Firstly, I don't like month names, especially on boys. If one must use August, I always wish it was Augustus. Augustus, though, is probably not too well suited to the child of today, but I still think it fits. Same thing goes for Atticus.Maybe I just like the -us. If it weren't for JKR, I'd have Severus on my name list. :p

I think Atticus is a great name too. August seems too feminine to me for some reason, even though Augustus definitley does not. I just like the Latin sound of it, and since it is from literature that makes it neat.

August is on my top 3 and I love it for a boy! I just feel like August is a more classy name than Atticus, which I don't like that much.

Definitely August, although Atticus is nice as well.

I like August better. I have a stronger personal association with the name and I think the name is more usable.

AugustWhy? Because it's my favourite boys name ever, and I will choose it over any other, no matte what the name. I like Atticus too- but I prefer August because:
- I much prefer the sound, and Atticus doesn't pass my Everday-Usability test- meaning I can quite happily yell for August to clean his room, or talk about him having soccer practice etc, but I can;t do the same for Atticus
- I can't help but think Attic- every darn time.
- The nn Gus- I love it.

August, definitely, for three reasons: Atticus is a bit too pretentious for my tastes; is too reminiscient of To Kill a Mockingbird; and I think the nn Augie is cute.

Well I don't like either. But I hate August more.
So my choice... Atticus.

I've always loved Atticus whereas August holds a new found place in my heart. Atticus has always been more of a GP of mine, but I would probably consider using August (more as a mn).

Personally, I like Atticus. I adore the nn Gus, but August/Augustus/etc. have never been favorites. Anyway, I think I'm partial to Atticus because ....
1 - I have a love affair with double-letter names.
2 - I love the literary connection.
3 - I just find it spunky, whereas August strikes me as "old" (though I know there are many here who would disagree about that :P)
