[Opinions] Lysander and Lysandra
What do you think? Are they too over-the-top? Comments are appreciated.I pronounce the first syllable as "lie" (rhymes with "eye").

Lysander pounanciation in Greek is Lýsandros.I love that name.Lysandra is made up...

Lysandra isn't made up. This was the name of a daughter of Ptolemy I (Ptolemy was a king of Egypt), so Lysandra is a historical name.

But what you thought was incorrect....An opinion can't be correct or incorrect. But this was a matter of fact, not opinion. What you said was incorrect. Your defense of "I said what I think" would have been valid in a matter of opinion, but it's not when dealing with facts. It would be best if you learned to admit when you're incorrect. You can learn things that way.

Chillax! This is opinion board! People write their impressions of names!

Yes, it is an opinions board, but Loxandra stated that the name Lysandra is made up. She didn't state that it sounded made up, which would have been an opinion, but that it IS made up, which if correct would have been a fact. Morsa pointed out that it is not made up, which is a fact. Loxandra then responded, "That is what I think." Which would have been fine if she were defending an opinion, such as, "It sounds made-up" "It's ugly" or "It makes me want to throw up." But she was responding to someone correcting something she had stated as a FACT.
It's an opinions board, but sometimes facts do come into the discussion, and when someone erroneously reports something as a fact, there's nothing wrong with pointing that out to them, and if they refuse to recognize that they're incorrect, there's nothing wrong with pointing that out either.

where I live even if Lysandra is a greek name nobody use it...so it's new for me and it seems made-up...So yes I was incorrect but since no body use it I couldn't know that it isn't made up...
plus Lysandra in Greece is a nn for Alexandra

They're borderline on being OTT. I'd be inclined to pronounce the first syllable "lee", I don't like it pronounced "lye".

I love Lysander. Love love LOVE it. I'm not wild about Lysandra because these two names really remind me of Alexander, which I can't deal with on girls in any form. The first thing that comes to mind is Alexandra the Great, and he definately wasn't too girly.

do you mean Alexander the Great?Alexandra was the name of a few queens, and notably Empress Alexandra, wife of the last Tzar of Russia. it's also an alternative name for Cassandra of greek mythology. i never saw it was masculine, personally.

I think they're both great names, but I especially like Lysander (which was on my boy's favorites list for awhile*). I don't think they're too "over the top".*Edited to mention that I've added Lysander to my PNL again.

I like Lysander. I love Lysandra, it's beautiful. The problem is that both lend themselves to the nickname Sandy, which is too feminine for a boy, and I don't care for on a girl.

Not OTT in the slightest. I love them. Lysander (said the same way you do, lye-SAN-der) was my boys' #1 for ages and ages, and it's still well up on my list. It's so darn handsome. I always thought Sandy would be a great NN.Lysandra is less of a favourite, but I'd still be over the moon to meet one :)

I like both, but I prefer Lysandros and Lysandra in Greek with the Y being pronounced ee. It's one of those instances where I prefer the original forms because English really changes the pronunciation. I don't think the names too over the top. Any names with real history are refreshing in a sea of Mc'Tryndeigh names.

Lysander is okay. I can't deny that with the right CLASSIC middle name, I would LOVE to see it in a birth announcement. For example: Lysander Thomas (gorgeous), Lysander Henry (gorgeous). Lysandra is ridiculous. Witch.

Witch?What do you mean?

It's just the name. It really sounds like a witch's name. Sorry if you thought I was calling you a witch. I wasn't.

I was just going to ask the same thing.:/

I really like Lysander as a mn (it's too over-the-top for me to use IRL as a first name), but Lysandra doesn't appeal to me at all.
