I do not like it for the same reason I do not like Melissa, Alyssa, and Clarissa. They are all trying too hard. Too pretty-pretty. Too obvious.

I heard it today and spelt exactly this way as well--a former polygamist.FLDS girl was named this.
I like Elisa better, pronounced Eliisa, long on the i, not on the E, like Eeeelisa.

A beautiful name! It sounds classy and feminine. In Spanish, Elisa is pronounced the same way I believe. There's a character with this name(pronounced Elissa) in a telenovela I watch, and that's probably why I started to love this name.

It's pretty, but too pretty for me, if you understand what I'm saying. Very soft and flouncy with very little substance IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing it, though I imagine it would be a hard name to bear. Some people would mishear it as Alyssa or Melissa etc

I have to disagree with Loxandra, I prefer Elizabeth.

Only if Elissa comes from the ancient queen Dido(The name Elissa is probably a Greek rendering of the Phoenician Elishat). I can't stand Elizabeth
