[Opinions] Alicia
Just wondering if I could get away with pronouncing it ah-LEE-see-uh? It's how Alicia Silverstone pronounces hers and I guess people never really got it, considering that she is only known as eh-LISH-uh Silverstone here. How do you pronounce it?Do you prefer Alice over Alicia? (I like both names and can't decide)Do you know anyone named Alicia or variant (Alisha etc)? How old are they, how do they spell it and do you happen to know any middle names? What is your favorite spelling of Alicia?I really love this name but I fear people will always pronounce it like Alisha or even Aleesha or something just not the way I want it to be pronounced. I also think it will be constantly misspelled even though I'd use the original spelling. So far I've seen Alicia, Alisha, Aleesha, Elisha, Alecia (I hate this) etc etcDo you think it's still too common? Is it dated to the 80s like Amanda? (in a slightly dated kind of way...the way Amanda and Rebecca seem dated not the way Courtney and Tiffany do....if you get what I mean)? Do you think it is still common if you combine all the spellings? Do you know any babies or young girls named Alicia?Do you understand why Alicia is way out of the top 100 yet Alyssa is still up there? I never really got it. Do you prefer Alyssa over Alicia?Do you like Al or Ali or Lisha as a nn? I prefer no nn at all.Do you think Estella, Adelaida nn Ada and Alicia are a good sibset? Are Ada and Alicia, Adelaida and Alicia too close to each other (ah-LEE-see-ah, ad-eh-LAY-da)?

I once new a girl named Alycia (ah-LEE-see-uh). She said her parents wanted that pronunciation, so they made up their own spelling for it. However, she said it is always mispronounced as Alicia (ah-LEE-sha) when people first meet her.I would pronounce Alicia ah-LEE-sha or maybe ah-LISH-uh.I'm not such a fan of Alice, but I guess it's alright. The Alycia I knew is 22 now, but I don't remember her middle name.I think you are right that this name will always be misspelled or mispronounced. She will constantly be correcting people. However, it is a gorgeous pronunciation (ah-LEE-see-uh)I think it's neither too common, nor dated. Yes, with all the variations, it's probably up there, but because of the variation is doesn't feel too common and your pronunciation even has a unique feel.Alyssa has softer sounds, which tend to become more popular. I like Alyssa a lot, but I'm not sure if I like it better.Ali is a good nn, but since it's usually short for Alison, that could be another source of confusion.

My mother and a friend of mine are both Alicias, prn'd the way i show it above, spelt the same way, and weirdly enough, same MN of AnneWhat is your favorite spelling of Alicia?Alicia Do you think it's still too common? I actually think it fits in the same category that mine (Colleen) does, where most people have met or know one, but its not a name you really encounter often.Do you understand why Alicia is way out of the top 100 yet Alyssa is still up there? It's an uncommon pronunciation, but you could probably get away with it, a lot of people would mispronounce it thoughHow do you pronounce it? I usually think A-lee-shaDo you prefer Alice over Alicia? I acutally am really growing to love Alice...it is much less common and I think it's cuter.Do you know anyone named Alicia or variant (Alisha etc)? How old are they, how do they spell it and do you happen to know any middle names?
I do know several Alicia's. It seems like it really had a moment of trendiness in the town I grew up in. One is in college now and her name is Alicia Kay (A-lee-sha). The other is Alisha (a-lee-sha also) but I don't know her mn. I know a Alisha that is in her 20's (pretty sure hers is pronounced A-lih-sha. Also, a physician in our town named his daughter Alysia. I also know a lot of Alisa, Alissa, Alyssa's. What is your favorite spelling of Alicia?
Probably Alicia.
Do you think it's still too common? Is it dated to the 80s like Amanda? Do you think it is still common if you combine all the spellings? Do you know any babies or young girls named Alicia?I do think it is sort of dated, not bad, but yeah kinda like Amanda. The main problem I have with this name is that there are so many variant pronunciations and spellings that I find it to be a confusing name. I think where I live it would almost always be pronounced A-lee-sha...that is the norm prn around here.

How do you pronounce it? - Ah-LISH-uh.Do you prefer Alice over Alicia? (I like both names and can't decide) - Yes. I love Alice.Do you know anyone named Alicia or variant (Alisha etc)? How old are they, how do they spell it and do you happen to know any middle names? - I know an Alisha, age about 16 or 17, and a Lisha, who is a year or two older. I also knew an Alyssa who pronounced her name Ah-LISH-uh.What is your favorite spelling of Alicia? - Alicia.I really love this name but I fear people will always pronounce it like Alisha or even Aleesha or something just not the way I want it to be pronounced. I also think it will be constantly misspelled even though I'd use the original spelling. So far I've seen Alicia, Alisha, Aleesha, Elisha, Alecia (I hate this) etc etc - Isn't Elisha masculine? Anyway, you can always correct people. It may be a bit tiresome, but if you love the name, you shouldn't let that stop you from using it.Do you think it's still too common? Is it dated to the 80s like Amanda? (in a slightly dated kind of way...the way Amanda and Rebecca seem dated not the way Courtney and Tiffany do....if you get what I mean)? Do you think it is still common if you combine all the spellings? Do you know any babies or young girls named Alicia? - I dont think it's too common; I only know two. I don't think it's dated at all, but I don't know any young girls named Alicia. That may be because I know very few young girls, though.

How do you pronounce it?Ah-LIS-ee-uhDo you prefer Alice over Alicia? (I like both names and can't decide)I think Alicia is pretty trashy (no offense to anyone) and Alice is lovely, simple and beautiful. So I prefer Alice.Do you know anyone named Alicia or variant (Alisha etc)? How old are they, how do they spell it and do you happen to know any middle names?
I know one Alicia, spelled that way. She's 17 and I'm sure her middle name is Elisabeth. I know of 4 others who are all quite young, two spell it Alicia, one Alisha and one Alesha. What is your favorite spelling of Alicia?Probably Alicia, even though I don't like the name.

Do you think it is still common if you combine all the spellings? Do you know any babies or young girls named Alicia?I don't think its common or dated but I do think it's quite popular with all the combined spellings, I know of 4 young Alicia's, Alisha's and Alesha's (Two spell it Alicia)Do you understand why Alicia is way out of the top 100 yet Alyssa is still up there? I like Alicia pronounced a-LEE-see-uh much more than a-LEE-sha or a-LI-sha. I know an a-LEE-see-ah. It is a valid pronunciation, yes you can get away with it.I still much prefer Alice. Simple and clean. Classic. Alicia just feels like it's trying too hard. Don't get me wrong, I like it well enough, I think its pretty. I'd just never use it myself and would rather meet an Alice.Alyssa and Alissa and Allyisa and Allissa and on and on is one of the most popular names at my kids' school. It's pretty, but enough already! I do get why it's more popular though. Parents today grew up watching Alyssa Malano (spelling? sorry!) on Who's the Boss? and the name sunk in. The pronunciation is also much more straight forward than Alicia. No, I do not think Adelaida and Alicia should be in the same sibset. Alicia traces back to Adelaide, and two variants of the same name in one sibset would bother me, though I might be the only one.
