I think the x ending makes it edgier and more interesting than Beatrice, though I also like Beatrice. I like the etymology/meaning of Beatrix/Beatrice, also. It's a sort of fusion of Viatrix "traveler" and Beata "blessed." I like Bea as an occasional nickname for either.
On the down side, the x invites the nickname Trixie, which I hate. I have a good association with the name (a kind, energetic German-American woman who was a mentor and Sunday school teacher for me).
The combo Margaret Beatrix is #1 on DH's and my list for daughters. Beatrix may be exchanged for something else by the time we'd have a daughter, but for now we both love it. Some combos I like with Beatrix in the first name slot:
Beatrix Margaret
Beatrix Hannah
Beatrix Mary
Beatrix Lucy
Beatrix Kathryn
Beatrix Anne (one of the few combos in which I like Anne as a middle name)
