I happen to like it quite a lot.

I think it's very sweet. A little short for my taste particularly but it's a nice name.

I love it! It's my older brother's new girlfriend's name (though she spells it Maura) and she's such a sweet girl she's making me like it more and more everytime I see her. It's one of my favorites.

I think I'll go home and mull this over . . .

I like the name. In fact, it's the name of the main character in the story I'm writing.

Lovely name. I've always had a soft spot for it. It sounds exotic but nothing too weird. It's a beautiful name for a girl.

I like it a fair bit, despite the meaning, mainly as something a bit more unusual than Mary, which I particularly like as a mn. PP's in Profile

I love the sound of it - definitely pronounced the way you have it, but don't care for the meaning at all. Because of that, I personally wouldn't use it. Meanings are too important for me.

Like the name, but I would spell it Maura, as I knew someone with this name. To me, Mara rhymes with Tara.:)

Mara has a very nice sound, but I dislike the meaning. I much prefer Mira : )

I like it actually. It's a strong name and it's a great alternative to Mary.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I like Mara. I do have twin girls in my classes this year named Mara and Tara. (first syllables of both rhyme with car.) Those two names together I don't really like.

The sound of Mara is ok. The Hebrew meaning doesn't appeal to me.

I really like this name, and vastly prefer your chosen pronounciation to the ugly "Mare-uh."
Nice combos:Mara Eleanor
Mara Eve
Mara Irene
Mara Rachel
Mara Susannah
