[Opinions] Jesse & Iris
Replies
I used to dislike Jesse quite a bit until one particular movie in which it was one of the main characters' names. You are right, it is almost never mentioned here. I like it now and see it as an underused classic. I have a good friend named Iris and I love the name. Of your combos, I like Iris Amelia and Jesse Daniel the best.
I adore Jesse! My favorite Jesse combo is Jesse Kirk. From you list my favorite is Jesse Daniel. Iris is a very sweet name in a no nonsense way. Iris Amelia is my favorite.
I think Iris is very dark and elegant. Iris Amelia is my favorite of those three combos.
I like Jesse in the sense that it's very Wild West Pioneer. As a name in reality I don't like it at all, though. Jesse Daniel is a pretty cool combo, and I agree that Jesse and Silas would make great brothers-- Jesse would be the adventurous brother and Silas the studious one.

I love Iris and I think Iris Keturah is a nice combo.
I dislike Jesse for a boy quite a lot, but I like Jessie (as a nickname) for a girl. In both cases, that has some to do with associations.

Jesse doesn't sound Southern to me much
Maybe Western, but only because of Jesse James if anything. I knew a Jesse growing up (he's probably 16/17 now) with a sister Hannah. It's one of those names I see being brought back because of the Protestant Reformation that would otherwise be used almost strictly by Jewish families. The Jesse I grew up with was Jewish, though not strict. I had a yellow lab (had him from ages 3-17)named Jesse; he actually only died two months ago from tomorrow so the name sort of hits a tender spot right now. It's a good name though.
I love the name Iris, though I tend to stick it in the middle name spot just because I don't think it'll break my top three (So I've had Mary Iris and Serafina Iris). Iris Virginia is very pretty.

It does give me an early American feel, but not any particular region specifically
Jesse is very southern american ("texas sounding") and western souding to me. I don't really like it, maybe because it's so close to Jessie. I prefer Jesse as a nickname, maybe for Jeremias? I don't like Iris either. It's too cute and has a bad sound.
Of your suggestions Iris Amelia and Jesse Micaiah is the best (even though I like Daniel more..)

I really like Jesse for a boy. There was a kid in my high school class named Jesse. He was the only Jesse I've ever known. He would be about fifty years old now. So it doesn't seem like it's overused. I'd love to see someone name their baby Jesse. Given the huge popularity of other boys' J names (Jason, Justin, Joshua), I'm sort of surprised that Jesse never became more popular. Maybe it was because Jessica became popular, and a good many girls named Jessica were nicknamed Jessie?
I've never been able to bring myself to like Iris, though.

Ohh Iris Amelia is so pretty! I also really like Jesse Luke. Jesse and Silas would be perfect together, very "down home South" to my non-American ears, but in a good, comfy sort of way!
I also really like Iris. It's like a sneaky flower/mythology name, and I do love tricky names :) It doesn't scream anything out at you. It's so quiet and unassuming. Lovely.
