I live in Virginia, and do think it is a pretty name, though I'd be hesitant to use it myself because of the joking.

I think Virginia's lovely -- for me, the name's gloriously reminiscent of Virginia Woolf.

I love it! It's very dear to me beause of a character, for lack of a better word, that I've had for years. It's so pretty and kind and motherly. Funny, it's not white at all to me. It doesn't have a strong color like some names do for me, but I'd say it's rather purple.

I'm sure a Virginia would get virgin jokes, but I honestly wouldn't think that to be a bad thing. Unless she's like 40, I guess. I wouldn't let that deter you from using it.

I don't think I know any Virginias, actually. I went to school with a Vergie and always thought it was spelled Virgie and was short for Virginia, but turned out it was short for Vergidale (...?). I love the nn Gina and Ginny. I dislike Ginger, too.

I LOVE Virginia. Totally usable.

I quite like it. Its my mum's name and I'd seriously consider using it as a middle name. She doesn't really get called any nicknames now that she's in her 50s but some family members still call her Gin, Ginny or Ginia on occasion.

I think its totally usable - I doubt there would be that many jokes. If for some reason she did get teased, go by Gin/Ginny until she's old enough for people to stop being silly.

Oh and also I pronounce this name differently to the American state pronunciation. Instead of Vir-gin-ya we say Vir-gin-ee-a. I don't really like it when pronounced Virgin-ya.

Although the name is not my style, I place it in the same category as Georgia and Carolina, even Adelaide and Paris. Place names that are feminine and very usable and acceptable as names.

Virginia will be teased, but I think the majority of kids are teased because of their names (to some extent) at some point. She may be called virgin or Virginia Slims or teased that she likes Dakota S (a girl) and not Dakota N (a boy). I just made that up and you could insert any place name for Dakota and Virginia, but you get the drift.

I like Gin/Gen/Jen as nicknames.

The potential to be teased with 'virgin' is there but kids will tease anything that's abnormal to them or comical. Virginia is such a classic and beautiful name that I wouldn't even worry about the teasing. Ginny is a wonderful nickname and my granddad has known a Virginia nn Ginny. Did you know that ginny is referance to a female mule? I'm sure very few know of this since these days most people are more urban. All in all I like Virginia and encourage you to keep it on your list :o)

I kind of like it, but I seriously wouldn't use it. It makes me think of the state.

Virginia is too virginal to me to really like. I much prefer Victoria. I like the nn Ginger. I don't think it's impossible to use, I don't think she'd get much more teasing than most. I don't know anyone, but I think Virginya is horrid.
