It's a lot less boring than James, and it has that soft, scholarly feel to it that I love in a name.

I could never use Silas because of the Da Vinci Code.
Anyway, James makes a really good first name (not as fond of it as a middle name though, got too common in that position).

Silas seems less commonplace then. James is okay as a first name, though. I find it much too ordinary and common for a middle name.

Tough choice, as I love them both, but I'll have to go with James because it has been my favorite boy name for at least two years now.

If I lived in an english speaking country where James was very popular, I would go with SIlas though.

Silas out of principle
because it is more interesting than James and catches my eye and piques my namenerd interest. But I like James too, for personal reasons. That's a tough one, they are both really nice. I think a boy would enjoy being a James more than a Silas though. Silas appeals to us namenerds, but I'm not sure about how little boys would feel about being the only lonely Silas.

I really like both names and both are on my PNL but I would choose Silas (see-las). James is a bit too bland for my liking and it's also very English which makes it kind of pretentious where I live.

I love James a whole lot, and I'm not a huge fan of Silas. It's a good character name-- in that the image I get from it is specific and neat, but not particularly desirable for real-life use. James, on the other hand, is the sort of name that I love. It's classic, strong, handsome, friendly, kind, and I love some of its nicknames. It's tied amongst at least one other name for what we'd use if we had another boy.

I love the name Silas! It's on my list. James is nice as well, but I'd go with Silas.

Silas. James is a handsome name, but has been so common that it can't help but to be considered boring next to Silas. Meet a James, (and I recently have) and one thinks "Ho hum". I've never met a Silas, and would like to.
