Hmm, this is fun. My cousin's middle name is Sachie. Could you tell me what the kanji choices are for chi?A few ideas:
早生恵 (fast birth grace) - For a baby born quickly, without causing too much pain to the mother
佐基恵 (save Christ grace) - For a baby born to recently "born-again" parents...assuming grace can have the meaning of God's grace, rather than just the sense of physical grace suggested by the synonym beauty
小喜枝 (small joy branch) - This is just sweet, especially when you consider the image of a family tree
佐紀絵 (rescue writings picture) - For the daughter of an academic researcher, perhaps
佐綺 江 (save beautiful cove) - For the daughter of an environmentalist who opposes dolphin hunting
早亀恵 (fast turtle beauty) - okay, this one is just a joke

Yes, grace is used in the church setting to mean God's grace or blessing also. Sachie will actually be one of the "What would you do with...?" names in the future at some point, so you can keep watch for that one... In the meantime, There are also some kanji that are sachi, so Sachie is often 2 kanji, but sometimes 3. sachi
1. 祥 means happy/fortunate, but has radicals for God/god and sheep... potentially giving the very subtle image of God's sheep in a very Ps. 23 sort of way that most Jpns. would totally miss unless explained since they often give limited thought to the breakdown of the radicals in any given kanji... they just learn them that way
2. 幸 happy/fortunatechi
千 thousand
智 wise/wisdom
知 wise/wisdomMy personal fave for Sachie is 祥恵.Another chance for you to play w/ kanji soon. Are you Japanese American (or Cdn... or other country, but from Jpns. decent) or is your cousin or does she just have a Jpns. mn?

I am not Japanese-American, but my cousin is Japanese-American, African-American, Puerto Rican-American, and Irish-American. And she lives in Hawaii. I think she'll probably grow up to be president, lol. Her fn is Alejandra. Thanks for the kanji explanations!

cool... w/ all that mix, I bet she's pretty... the JET programme and/or MEXT scholarships may be of interest to her if she wants to get some experience w/ that part of her roots and the experience funded for her.
You're welcome for the kanji explanation.

I'd use the kanji for save/rescue, joy, and grace/beauty.
Something like Sakie Rose, Sakie Jane, Elina Sakie, Sakie Laure, Laura Sakie, Laurel Sakie, Sakie Laurel, Sakie Quinn, Luna Sakie?
