Help[Opinions] Emery on a boy?
Do you think that Emery still works on a boy, or do you think it's completely gone to the girls? Emery has a pretty considerable history of use on boys, but in the past year it was ranked #783 for a boy and #312 for a girl. Still, it hasn't fallen completely out of the top 1000 for boys, and I certainly don't think a boys' name being used on girls means that it can't be used on boys anymore. I love the sounds in Emery, I love the meaning of it. I love that it's patriotic in a really nerdy way (Emery is the Norman form of Emmerich, Amerigo is an old Italian form of Emmerich, America comes from Amerigo). I think it works well as a less-common alternative to Henry.
So, back to my original question, do you think that non-name nerds would recognize Emery as a boys' name, or do you think that most people would see it as a girls' name? What do you think of Emery is general?

I like Emery only on a boy. I think it's still unpopular enough for girls that you get away with using it for a boy.

I don't really like it on either gender. Knew a guy named Ellary in high school, so Emery prob'ly wouldn't phase me.

Emery is a name I overlook for some reason. I always think of the name as male.

I really like Emery for a boy much more than for a girl. I also love Emil / Emile, Emilio, Emiliano, Emmerich and Emerson. My favorites are Emilio and Emmerich. Emerson is one of the few -son names that I really love. I love Emery but I'd personally only use it for a boy. The only reason I'd feel a little odd using it is that it reminds me of the nail files called Emery Boards. Quinn is similar to Emery. More girls are currently being named Quinn than boys are. Quinn is much more a male name to me, just as Emery is. So I wouldn't not use Emery just because more girls are currently being given this name. Also for a boy or a girl this name is so uncommon that I don't think people really consider it more for one sex than the other.
Had to mention that for Emmerich I also love the spelling Emeric even though I wouldn't pronounce it the French way.

Emery totally works for a boy! It's not common enough for people to automatically assume it's a feminine name, imo. In fact, I assumed it was a masculine name before I discovered it was unisex (with James and Aidan being used on girls though, nothing surprises me these days!). I like Emery. I don't think I'd use it, but I wouldn't mind meeting a boy named Emery! :)

I think it is so uncommon that it shouldn't be a problem. Some will think Emery is a boy and some (those that like names like Emerson, Parker, Ashton on girls) will think girl.
The only time I have heard it is as a last name. I think it is rather masculine and although I could see someone using it for a girl, my first thought would be boy and I much prefer it for a male.
